I am trying to find some kid reviews of Tom Sawyer Island. So, what do your kids think about the place? Thanks! :thumbsup2

Thanks! What makes it better than any other playground?

I don't think I'd really call it a playground. There are caves to explore and stuff like that. Here are some pictures:

My two younger ones loved it. They were ages 7 and 4. It has caves and a maps and hills to climb....you have to take the raft to get over to the island and then you just explore. We spent at least an hour over there. Go...they'll love it!

My kids love it as well. My youngest especially likes the fort. They're a little afraid of the caves, but usuallly will go through if they have to in order to get to another part.

One way to make Tom Sawer's Island more of an adventure is to try and find a paint brush. They go fast so you have to be on one of the first boats over to the island in the morning. If you find a paint brush turn it in to the boat driver for a front of the line pass to Thunder or Spash Mountain. Last June I found three one morning but could only use one so I hid the other two and watched people find them. I was able to enjoy spreading the Disney magic.

I was wondering too, it's been forever since I went over there - like 15 years. My mom and I are doing high tea at GF and thought the hubs and boys might have fun going over there for an hour or 2.

About how long does it take to have a nice exploration? Any really great photo ops?

My son was 2 1/2 last year and he LOVED it! He thought running through the caves were so cool. We finally had to drag him away after about 45 minutes, because the big kids thought we were wasting too much "real ride time"! LOL

My only comment is to make sure you stick close to your kid. It's not like the smaller playgrounds geared for preschoolers at Magic Kingdom where you can sit on a bench and watch your child play. This one is more like the Dino Playground at AK or HISTK at HS. It would be super easy for you to lose site of your child, so you need to stick with them on this one. That was no problem for me though! MUCH easier than crawling around in the HISTK tunnels! LOL

We were there at Thanksgiving and the park was crowded. Going to Tom Sawyer's Island gave us a great break from the the crowds and dd (10) loved it. It gave her a chance to run and climb off some excess energy and she felt like it was more of an adventure than any playground.

We've always liked Tom Sawyer Island. It isn't a playground - its a kid's fantasy spot - the perfect place for a little "lets pretend." With caves to get "lost" in and a bottomless pit (that my kids figured out wasn't bottomless and were quite impressed with their own deductive skills at about four or five). The barrell bridge is a favorite as well as the fort.

I have fond memories of the one at Disneyland. We went just about every year and that was a cool place for my brothers and me!!!!! It is definitely on my list for my DD's on our next trip to WDW!!!!

My older 3 kids loves Tom Sawyer Island. We have not (but are now) read about Tom Sawyer and his adventures. SO I think the next tim we go they will be a little more familiar with some of the landmarks. They had lots of fun running around and exploring, as kids should do (mommy was tuckered out afterward, but it was wonderful to see smiles on their faces).

My son is 9 and loves Tom Sawyer Island! He says it is more like how we really play, not a ride or a playground. He loves the caves and the bridge. He also likes that he can hide from us and play without needing to be so close to mom & dad all the time. He made a new friend and they played checkers.

It is an adventure where you can use your own imagination and pretend you are really Tom or Huck. It's different from many other things at Disney becasue it takes your own imagination instead following someone elses ideas of what do do. It's very cool! We were on the island for over 2 hours and it was hard to get him to leave at that!!

We only explored about 1/2, since dh was being a butt....:rolleyes1

BUT we found a paintbrush, and got a family fastpass to the ride of our choice in MK...so it was a highlight!

The girls loved it, and I would have if dh hadn't been a putz.

It does seem to be hotter or more humid on the island. I guess it is because the breeze does not blow with all of the foliage. You can get some great pics of familiy with Thunder Mountain, the riverboat or Haunted Mansion in the background.
