Yeah, I got my electric bill yesterday. I know there are old threads, but with the cost of everything going up and this record breaking hot summer, I thought there might be new thoughts on it. My AC was at 75 24 hours a day, I raised it to 77 today. So what is yours set at?

Mine is set at 72 and I still often feel warm without the ceiling fan going during the day. Of course with the fan on I often need socks and at night I snuggle under a light blanket.

We use a timer. When we are at work all day I have it set to 80, or turn it off if it's going to be in the low 80's outside (springtime here in Atlanta). I think we go to 76 from 5-10 pm and then 74 from 10 pm to 6 am, because I sleep better if it's cooler. It doesn't stay on all night because that's not a difficult temp to reach. Even with that, our bill was over $200 this month.

We had FPL come out to our house and gsve us some energy conserving tips, when it's not so hot(october-may) it's typically set at 81 during the day and 76-77 at night, putting up blackout curtains has helped a lot. But right now it's set at 78 during the day and 76 at night.

We've also had a record breaking summer and our a/c has been running non-stop.

If it's really hot outside, I'll set it at 77 during the day (with oscillating fan in LR and ceiling fans in bedrooms) and then down to 74 at night. I sleep better when it's cooler.

The kids and I are here all day and I refuse to be uncomfortable in my own house.

ETA: I forgot to mention blinds and curtains are all closed on south-facing side of the house.

78 all the time. I am still hot, but it runs all the time and our bill is high enough.

We did get additional insulation and a radiant barrier last summer, so hope that helps with next month's bill, which is usually the highest.

In the summertime, our ac is set at 82. :goodvibes And that's still generally cooler then the outside temp.

:cutie:

When we are not here during the day it's set to 80. It goes to 77 at 5pm and then back to 80 at 10pm. We do have solar screens on our west facing windows which kids those rooms incredibly cool! It's seriously amazing!

77? 78?? 82??? You guys are going to need to air condition your air conditioned rooms!

I'm with Cornflake on this one. Mine stays at 67 day and night.

Ours is set at 79. We also have the living room ceiling fan on all day and the bedroom ceiling fans on at night. We keep the blinds shut on the windows on the south side of the house, too.

78 during the day (with ceiling fans running) and 74 at night. I like it cool at night as I like to sleep under a blanket!

Everyone else is my family would like it to be kept at 74 all the time, but if we do that it runs all day long.

75 during the day, 68 at night. It's been a hot summer and our AC bill has been over $500.00 a month.

When we first moved to TX from MI, we had it set pretty low, around 70 and it was perfect for us. The problem was that our electric bills were between $300-$400 a month from May through September. We had to find a way to cut down that bill, so each year we raise it a little and our bodies have adjusted. Besides, when it's 95 outside, even 80 inside feels like relief!

73 during the day, 71 for sleeping when up north. Funny thing is when we are at our Florida house we keep it at 75 during the day and it feels fine. Up north that feels too warm.

Live in Ohio, ours is usually at 71, occasionally at 73. Do try to shut it off on days when it isn't too humid.

We have 2 window units downstairs. Both are set at 69 day/night. Actually, the only time they run constantly is when we are home and it is really hot out. At night and during the day when we are at work they go on Energy Saver.

Our bedroom unit is not turned on until about 6 or 7 pm. I turn it off before 5 am. It is set at 68.

ETA: our last electric bill was $167, before that $146. But that does not include hot water, we have a natural gas water heater.

If I had my way we would have it set at 78.

Instead its set as my husband would like at 77.

and he thinks I always get what I want......

78 day and night, window coverings drawn shut all day. It gets too hot here to set it lower. The poor thing runs constantly the way it is and the electric bill is scary enough. I don't mind 78 though, I find it perfectly comfortable and I'd probably get cold if it was lower anyway. If I happen to get too hot in the middle of the night, I'll turn on a personal fan.
