What do you guys think? Opinions?

This is a new one to me too! I agree that arranging for all the invited guests to have prepaid tickets sounds like the way to go.

Quick question.....if the dance is after the ceremony, when is the reception?

It's not something I've ever heard of but it certainly sounds like fun. I would probably not let my guests pay for it, but it's such a nominal fee that maybe most young people don't mind forking over the couple of bucks to have a good time. And of course that helps the bride and groom cover the cost of the party.

I don't have an answer for you. It sounds as if the custom of your area is to have a dance and have the bride/groom pick up the tab. The times, though, baby, may be a-changin'.......

It would be ceremony, dinner, dance. Fishbone is just refering to the dance portion being open to the public.

I live only an hour away from Fishbone and I've never heard of it.

Her brother has decided that it will be open to the public. Not my thing, but if that's what he wants, I agree with her, that's fine.

It's the, not picking up the tab for your invited guests to enter the dance, that I don't agree with, neither does Fishbone.

Never heard of that before myself, and I wouldn't have charged for invitees either. But as you said, it's his wedding, and $2 entry is a very reasonable fee.

I think it would depend on whether or not you expected them to pay AND to take off their shoes once they got there... ;)

OH A SOCK HOP!!!! What a superb idea!!! Think of the possibilities….

We would offer amnesty to anyone who had a valid reason for keeping their shoes on…… a simple 4 page application for reprieve would be offered. Of course we’d require VERY specific reasons and graphic details……… you understand of course that we can’t be allowing rudeness and bad manners for just anything. A small panel of 50 or so people will review each case individually, and may ask to see physical evidence or a doctor’s note. You’ll need to provide your name, so we can use it when we play the “Guess who has this problem” game at 10:30 pm sharp. We’ll use the stage and intercom system so everyone has a chance to participate. Prizes will be awarded for the most correct guesses.

We could have a big pile of shoes at the door creating an obstacle course with prizes for the person who navigates it without injury.

And there’s always the ever-popular “Who can find their shoes in the big pile first” game. Why with all those shoes, the game will be the best ever!!!

Oh, and how about a prettiest feet contest or a wet-sock competition. WOOOHOOOO!!!!

And the best benefit of all………….. NO CLEANUP. All the dirt will be on the bottom of everyone’s socks, bare feet and nylons (which by now are trashed, and probably have potential for another cool game).

It was a joke...are people required to leave their senses of humor at the door as well?

As was mine........... I was actually giggling while writing it. No, you can wear your humor inside..... we actually prefer that.

I've never heard of charging a cover - may be a municipal thing? Born and raised in Minnesota and attended many wedding all over the State.. the dollar dance is a custom I've seen a lot but never a cover charge.

Back in College I did Bartend in a small town in Central Minnesota and we did have public or private wedding dances. The only difference was the public dances had to have a Cash bar. The reception would take place in the dining room of the facility, and the dance would be in the Dance hall. Private dances could be open bar or even setups only (BYOB) but they did have to pay for security, etc. (don't recall the specific's) - it was not at all unusual to have Public dances for weddings there, but that's the only time I ever ran across that.. I was actually surprised at how many of the bar's "regular's" would dance at "public" wedding dances. Seemed odd to me then, and I've only seen it there. Never attended one myself.

I would encourage them not to charge a cover except (if required) to "uninvited" guests - the ticket thing seems like the way to go, and have lot's of extra tickets available at the reception for those who forget theirs.

I grew up in So. Mn!

Not to offend anyone, but this area has some really "tacky/weird" customs
Must be due to the close proximity to Iowa ;)
