We are staying at pop century and plan on eating some meals other than breakfast in the room. What do you guys make in the room?:goodvibes

I didn't exactly make it in the room, but I took a large container of chicken salad and made sandwich's either for breakfast (I know, I'm weird) or to take to the park with us to fill a couple of gaps in the dining plan we had.

We may do that again if we get to take our trip in May. I don't think I would attept to make anything, except sandwich's.

I guess I meant what do you eat in the room. I am taking fried chicken, cause we like to eat it cold. I am also making taco salad. I didn't really mean cook.

At POP you are kinda limited unless you are bringing a cooler. We just bring the standard "junk" that we wouldn't normally allow for breakfast (ie Pop Tarts). We also bring granola bars, raisins, freeze dried pineapple, and those cups of cereal that DD either eats dry or one of us runs downstairs for a thing of milk. The lack of a fridge is one of things we don't like about POP.

We don't really eat meals other than breakfast in the room.

We always have hummus and veggies, tabbouleh, cut up fruit, yogurt, cereal and milk, cheese and crackers, almond butter (for apples, toast, spoon), bourbon.

Love the chicken salad and fried chicken ideas! Makes me think of cold meatloaf sandwiches....mmm... I really think any picnic type foods could work well, but I'd be concerned about smell of some of my favorites. (Tuna and white bean salad with garlic vinaigrette might be a little *phew* in an enclosed space.)

I'm curious to see what others bring.

We stayed in a Downtown Disney hotel & brought a cooler - had lotsa fun stuff in there! String cheese, feta cheese, milk, waters & some diet sodas, yogurts, bags of salad mix, tomatos, deli sliced turkey & deli sliced cheese....and this was just the cooler! I also brought cereal, bread, salad dressing, mustard, pop tarts, zone bars, tea bags, gummy fruit snacks (Nemo of course!), almonds & walnuts too.

So we had lots of meals in the hotel! One day we made turkey & cheese sandwiches, and another we made greek salads with feta & walnuts, yummy!
we didn't venture out for breakfast, prefered to stay in the hotel & have cereal & milk or pop tarts with some herbal tea.
During a week-long stay, we only ate out twice, once at O'hana and once at Yak & Yeti in Animal Kingdom. Saved us a ton of cash AND, there was a lot leftover to bring home!

We have taken pop tarts, muffins, doughnuts, Cinnamon Buns from the bakery. peanut butter and jelly I kept the Jelly in a small cooler. It is not the best diet but we only do it on vacation.

Check into one of the fridge swaps here, they are great for keeping stuff cold!!

We did not have much for food in ours rooms just a lot of snacks.

We brought lots of things as we mainly ate in the room and brough lunches to the parks - here are some of our favorites:

1. tuna & cracker snacks (these comes in a package)
2. wraps spread with peanut butter and wrapped around an unpeeled banana
3. wraps spread with spreadable cream cheese & brocolli slaw (you can buy this bagged in the salad/produce section)
4. hard fruit (apples & pears) - we wrapped them in our sweatshirts (to reduce bruising)
5. we also bought packages of Quaker rice cakes (individual packs)

This in addition to a jug of milk and a box of froot loops rounded out most of our meals.

I really hope that is supposed to be a peeled banana???

We have always had breakfast in the room and have done this since our son was a little guy. We just feel we're more relaxed, no hustle/bustle, etc. We always get a refrig. We get milk, juice, fruit, muffins, bagels, etc. At one time we use to bring a toaster w/us and make toast or english muffins, etc.
Now it's just my husband/I that go down since our son is much older and we still enjoy breakfast in the room.

We leave next Tuesday and I plan on stopping at WalMart first for items to make sandwiches. I just got done baking several loaves of banana bread, apple bread and bran muffins. I also have a ton of snacks to just grab-n-go before heading to the park.

We usually take a cooler (either pack a collapsible or buy a cheap styrofoam). In there, we have milk, juice, sliced cheese, packaged turkey and chicken, mayo, mustard, lettuce and tomato.
We also take bread (obviously), dry cereal, instant oatmeal (it's fine with hot water from the coffee maker), bread, some pre-packaged pastries, peanut butter and cheese crackers, an assortment of chips and granola bars.
A couple of times, we've bought a cheap toaster for pop-tarts and toast.
Most days we eat breakfast in the rooms as every one is getting ready. For instance, I eat while my husband is getting dressed and he'll eat while I'm getting dressed. If we take a mid-day break, we'll grab sandwiches and chips in the room. It's also good for late night munchies (which happens with 2 teen age boys - a lot!). My husband is diabetic, so we have to have some little things he can grab if he feels he needs a bite to eat.

We are usually in the parks for meals, but I keep some stuff in my owner's locker for break days when we're hanging out at the resort. Don't usually have a fridge so I have mac n cheese, soup, spaghettios, etc that I can warm up in the electric kettle- thank you Brits for the inspiration! Also use it for coffee and oatmeal in the morning.

I have a little hot pot that boils water really quickly. It has a large opening, like a saucepan, with a lid. I use it to cook ramen and macaroni & cheese (the kind with the sauce in a pouch, Velveeta brand) and to boil water for other things. My kids sometimes just want something like that. I bring paper plates and bowls and plastic utensils.

I am very careful when using the hot pot - it would scare me to death if anyone but me went near it!! I always wash it out right away, then let it dry and put it away. I don't think it's not allowed, as I've left it out before, but don't like leaving things around (looks sloppy).

You could get a dozen eggs and easily make hard boiled eggs in it. My DD likes those, and so do I.

I would definitely get a fridge or have a cooler - I wouldn't want to stay without a fridge. We do a stop for drinks, and get the little individual milks for my DD and soy milk for my DS, plus always have stuff like sliced cheese, bread, pb&j, some fruit, chips, crackers, yogurt, etc...

We're in on one of the fridge swaps at Pop, so that will help. We're planning to have breakfast in the room every day, to save time and money. We figured we would also keep some quick fixes for lunch/dinner in case we're more interested in pool time than stopping at a restaurant to eat.
Here is what we had planned...

For breakfast: Cereal, Yogurt, Granola, Milk, OJ, Breakfast Bars, PB&J, bagels and cream cheese, whole fruit.

For lunch/dinner: deli turkey/ham/cheese/buns, veggies and dip, whole fruit, snack packs, trail mix, potato salad, etc. I may even add a couple bags of romaine salad mix and dressing if it will fit.

Thanks for some of these ideas. My family loves hard boiled eggs and I love the tuna/cracker packs (Both of these would be easy to bring). It also didn't even cross my mind that I could use the coffee pot for hot water for oatmeal. Duh!

I'm only planning to bring paper towels, plastic cups and plastic spoons. I think we can manage all the meals we have planned with just those items. Since we've got four people staying two weeks at Pop, space is going to be tight. We make a trip to Walmart when we first arrive, and again about half way through our trip.

Keep the ideas coming!
