We are giving my folks a year membership to AAA and a gift certificate to a business that does housework and yardwork along with a few "wrappables".

I like those suggestions!

I agree that anything they like that is usable is the way to go.
My grandmother has a favorite lotion by Estee Lauder.
My FIL likes aged Scotch.

I sent my inlaws a nice gift selection of meats and other goodies from Omaha Steaks. It arrived yesterday packaged in a styrofoam cooler kept frozen with dry ice inside.

Gift card and one of those potted bulbs (Target had some recently for $5.99 marked down from $9.99), a live wreath, Omaha steak package.

My mom and stepdad aren't really in need of anything so we usually get them a gift card for Red Lobster. It is their favorite restaurant but they don't go often so it's a treat for them. It's more appreciated to them than little knick knacks or other tokens we would get them for Christmas. Gift cards to a service or place they enjoy but wouldn't normally go is usually a good bet for the people that don't need anything.

Meriweather - I think I'm like you, too. Husband and son keep asking me what I want and I don't need any thing, other than someone to vacuum the house.

Well, I am going to be getting a curio cabinet, but that is from DH and for the new house, the other ideas are what I would like from my adult children

When my DD was working for UPS last holiday season she said she was amazed at the number of wreaths and Omaha Steak packages they delivered to the retirement communities.
