What do you do with your things at Castaway?

What do you do with your phones, cards, personal belongings while you are snorkeling or swimming? Just wrap in a towel and place on a chair, or is there a waterproof way to carry your things in the water? I've always wrapped things in a towel and left in chair and never had it stolen, but I feel I'm tempting fate at this point.

Our first trip, I kept my phone in a water-proof pouch around my neck. DH held our KTTW cards and IDs in a velcro pocket in his swimsuit. Nothing else was of any value so we just left it in our beach bag on our chairs.

Our second trip, I bought a Kyss bag. I still had my phone around my neck so I could take pics but everything else was locked up in the bag.

At other beaches I have used a bag called an Aquapak, I bought it quite awhile ago on Amazon. There were many different sizes. At Castaway Cay I haven't used it, there is no need to have money there and my room key is in a lanyard that I either keep on me or keep in my beach bag. I don't take my phone, but take a cheap waterproof camera with me for the day that I keep in my beach bag or shorts when I'm not using it but since it is waterproof I usually take it into the water with me.

The one we have is the SAFEGO. I like it because it's just enough for wallets, phone, keys, sunglasses. Use anywhere, not just CC.

We put our phones in waterproof cases and brought them in the water with us. The rest we just left on the beach but there was nothing valuable there.

Lol, I must just be a trusting/naive person because I left my phone and keycards in my beach bag when we went in the water. I figured if my keycard got stolen, I'd just report it to Disney and sort out any unauthorized charges. And I wasn't too worried about my phone--I'd be surprised if there were a ton of people paying thousands of dollars for Disney cruises only to steal an old password-protected iphone 6.

I respect all the people who buy this and that to keep their stuff safe. That is fine, but especially on Castaway Cay, I didn't find any of that necessary. Your KTTW card (and money for that matter) is waterproof and can go swimming with you. Wallet is not needed, and the only other valuable I had was my phone, and I just did what I always do at the beach, which is put it at the bottom of my beach bag and check back on it occasionally. If someone was robbing bag after bag, someone would notice, and if someone targets me specifically to get my phone at the bottom of my bag....in the mean time, I get to enjoy life without dread.

OP, I'd say your are already on the right track. Enjoy!

I had my phone (because it's my camera) in a waterproof lanyard and the KTTW fit in there as well. Everything else we just left in the bag on the beach. Nothing valuable.

We leave the beach bag with towels and such by the beach chair, nothing worth the taking left in it. Sunscreen, bug spray, vaseline, baby powder, sea safe, towels, etc.
This is the waterproof lanyard we bought for our phones, we put our KTTW cards in these also and leave everything else on the boat.

Other than my key card (around my neck) and my waterproof camera (wriststrap) I leave my stuff in my stateroom. The only thing valuable I carry is suntan lotion (ever see the price on the ship) in that very valuable bag they give me for free.

If I am using my phone as a camera it is is a waterproof bag around my neck.

Thank you all for your suggestions! The only thing of value we would have with us is our phones. We have a lake in our town and when our son goes to swim he just puts his phone in his nasty shoe which in our eyes would keep the toughest criminal away. When we are on vacation, either at pools or beaches, we just keep it deep in our bag on a chair and have been fortunate so far. We were just talking the other day and wondering what others do.

That’s funny. We always but a disposal diaper onto which a brown cola has been poured into plastic grocery bag and tie it to the handle of the stroller when at Disney World. No one has ever taken that stroller, either by accident or otherwise, because it appears a dirty diaper is hanging off the handle!

yes i've heard of the stroller trick! :teeth:

On Castaway I leave my kttw in our beach bag and I put my phone in a waterproof case so it stays with me. No other valuables need to come with us.

Two words: Aqua Vault.

I bought one mostly for use at waterparks when just a room key isn’t enough. But, i have the option of double duty on Castaway.

I don't take a phone ashore. I have a waterproof camera that is strapped to my wrist. Cash, credit cards, and room cards can all get wet. My husband uses the pocket on his swim trunks, I use a more time-honored place of concealment for us ladies :rolleyes1. Sunglasses, book to read, towels, sunscreen, just leave them on a chair, I've had no issues.

What about passports or ID? Aren’t those required to get back on the ship? Do you just leave those in your bag?

You do not need your passport. Leave it locked in your room safe. Just your KTTW card and a driver's license. That I put in with my KTTW card on my lanyard. Shove it in a beach bag or we bring a backpack and place a small lock on the zipper. Any other valuables stay on the ship, including phones and the like. If I bring my DSLR, I use it for my pix and then haul it back to the cabin. GoPro stays with me in the water and when not, in the bag and I am at the chairs etc. Try not to worry, have never had an issue there. Just use your good judgement and never leave anything valuable lying out in the open.
