What do you do with your Laptop?

at many of the hotel hi hi-speed service is available for a fee. I think they are in the process of installing it in the last of the hotels now, but I couldn't tell you which ones. All of the deluxe and moderates should have it by now. You just plug it into the network connection on your laptop and follow the prompts. It runs about $10 dollars a day. If you need dial-up access, some companies do have an access number for times when your service is out. You would need to check with your local provider.
As for me, I have done both, hidden my laptop and left it in plain sight. Never had a problem.

I'm not as trusting as some of you I guess. I rarely bring my laptop, but when I do I lock it in my suitcase and put the case in the closet. Not foolproof, I know. But I'd rather not tempt fate.

We left ours out on the table with the card reader connected to it. Never had any trouble. That doesn't mean I SHOULD have left it out, probably wasn't the best idea, but I used it every night to download the photos, so I didn't want the hassle of having to set it up each time.

Last trip and some other one's we had done the same thing. We haven't had a problem yet.

I brought one this time, my first time bringing one on a trip, and I just left it out on top of the dresser or the table. I didn't even think about Mousekeeping potentially taking it, and no one else should have access to our room, right?

I only used it to download pics from the digicam each night, so I could take as many as I wanted each day. Working from Disney sounds like sacrilege to me :earsgirl:

Usually put in it's case or in a drawer under clothes. Got lazy this past trip (last week) and left it out all week. We have no sensitive information on it.

I leave mine out. If I can't afford to lose something, I don't take it. My laptop is backed-up to my desktop at home. If something were to happen to my laptop, I wouldn't be happy; but I also wouldn't lose any information.

Kind of OT here but since I am slightly techno challenged I bet all those of you posting on this thread can help with this question. I would like to bring my laptop to connect to the internet to upload photos and place an order for Xmas cards from Disney before I get home so they are waiting when I get there. Currently I connect thru a cable modem at home and do not have an AOL account or other dial up service. How can you get on the internet from the resort? and is there a charge? how much? what kind of cable do ou need. We will be at the CR. Can you tell I don't travel much with it, and when I do it is to a location that I have a set up already? :sunny: Thanks for your help!

CR has high-speed internet access so what you would need to bring is an ethernet cable and $9.95 for 24 hour access. If you don't want the high-speed, you can still use dial-up for 75cents local call connection charge. However you'll need your own dial-up provider. I suggest going and paying the $9.95. It's worth it.

Anyway, when you get to your room, look for a plug that looks like a phone plug but bigger. You'll plug one end of your cable to this, and the other end to your computer. Then you just need to turn on Internet Explorer and the network will find itself. It'll come to a web page that asks if you'd like to accept the charges and when you accept, it'll connect you. You can then surf the internet as usual.

Just remember that in order to do this, you'll need a credit card on file at check in time though, because they'll just charge it to the room.

On our last trip we had 3 laptops in the room. My brother left his out, but my friend and I would put ours back in the carrying cases and put them over in the closet. Mostly because we didn't want anyone that was in our group messing with them and the mixup of cables, etc. (we had 3 dell computers there!).

My brother just left his out, along with game boys, games, and even money. We didn't have any trouble with anything coming up missing though.

I usually try to at least put the stuff in a drawer or out of the way. I'm also the type that I prefer to cleanup the room before mousekeeping comes! :confused3

We will be bring our laptop for the first time also. Im planning on keeping it in a suitcase that has a small lock. Again not full proof, but a deterent. Also put a password protection on. My laptop is for on the go work. Nothing great is kept on it, but I would be totally heartbroken if someone stole my "toy" and all the pictures I would download onto it from our trip. Wishing us all luck! :goodvibes

We stayed at the POP Century and laptop fit in the safe with room for other valuables.
