What do you do with 'stray' points when buying resale?

I have 15 points coming with a resale contract that will expire March 31st/08. Should I just let them 'die', or would you post them for sale/transfer to another member? Would the member I transferred them to be able to bank them or must they be used by the same use date I had?

If these are current points, you should just bank them yourself and use them next year from your own account. If they are points that have already been banked, they cannot be transferred anyway and will expire at the end of the current Use Year.

To answer you question- transferred points may be banked to extend their use an additional year. (Banked points may NOT be transferred though.) If they are actually banked points you could try to rent a reservation made using those points to someone else.

If the points expire on March 31, 2008, the contract must have an April use year. Are you sure they cannot be banked? If they are 2007 use year points, you are still within your banking deadlines under both the old and the new rules. I'd bank the points and use them for my next vacation (assume you will go sometime between 4/1/2008 and 3/31/2009).

If the points are already in banked or borrowed status, they cannot be transferred to another member. If you can't use the points yourself before they expire, you can either make a reservation with them and try to rent the reservation or you can just let them expire.

We bought a resale several years ago and found out at closing that we had 7 points that were going to expire at the end of Nov. We already had a Nov trip planned, so we borrowed a few points from the next year and added one more night to our trip.

I believe that some of the points were banked points from the previous year, and the rest of the points were borrowed from 2008... so if I understand correctly, these will not be transferrable and will die, unless I use them to book a reservation that occurs before March 31st.

A pitifully small reservation, of one night in a studio -- but who knows, that might work for someone.
