What do you do with points left over?

Do you usually have a few points left over each year, and if so what can you do with them? Is it correct that you cannot combine points and cash?

"Left over points" is an oxymoron for most members, LOL! The few rare times I have had a few left over pts in a year I have always just rolled them over. You can not combine cash and pts in the sense that if you only have 4 pts left and one night is 24 pts you pay 4 pts and the remainder in cash, but you can combine different nights paid with pts and cash in one trip. Each night has to be fully paid for by either pts or cash but you could have one night paid for in pts and the next 6 nights paid for with cash in one trip with the reservations all linked together so there would be no possiblity of having to change rooms.

CarolA, exactly my question. One year we had one point that we had to use, so we borrowed from the next year to get enough points to add one more night to our trip. So, no left over points that year.

With proper management and banking and borrowing, there should not be "left over" points. Our friends did get into that situation this year. I helped talk her through banking while we were all at OKW in January. Now she finds (due to death of her DH) that she wont be using her points this year, so she will lose the banked points from last year. Since there are only 16 that will expire, I have told her I thought she should try renting them out.

We bank them or plan another trip.. Actually, I manage our points to ensure that I use them all... such a fun task.. so we balance the trips and accommadations to use our points.. If I had a few left over, I would rent or give them away.. However, in the past 10 years we have never had the problem.

rent them, there are always a dvc memeber short a point or two, just remember what goes around comes around, someday we might all be there were we need that one point to complete our ressies, us dvc memeber should stick together in our need.

We have yet to have left over points, but that may change. Due to a work schedule blunder, I may be paying cash for three nights AKL concierge instead of using points. If need be, I will indeed bank those points.
