What else could you do with them but bank them?
I just banked my remaining 85 points for this year.
Now I have enough for a 2 bedroom next year Food and Wine Festival.
If you are beyond your banking deadlines, or if the points are otherwise unbankable (e.g. already banked from the previous year) there is not much you can do except use them or lose them.
Depending on how many you have, you might be able to find an attractive option in your area from the Concierge Collection and just drive to a quick weekend trip somewhere. Or check with your favorite airline and see where you can fly cheap and use Concierge there. We've taken some pretty cool trips (NYC, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Hollywood, etc) that way on the spur of the moment -- not with DVC, just cash.
Or do as others have suggested, make a quick trip to WDW staying whereever you can find availability.
We use a combination of banking and borrowing to avoid this uncomfortable situation, and so far it's worked perfectly.
Borrow from next year and get enough for a short trip - either at WDW or trade out.
Once we found we had 4 points from a new resale that we bought that we had to use. We thought they were bankable point. They had already been banked. So we borrowed enough points to add one more night to our stay.
We usually know at least 6-8 months ahead of time whether we will have points left to bank. Hasn't happened very often, but it might happen this year with one contract. DVC really requires some planning ahead of time.
And if you have banked your points and find you need some for the current year, you just borrow from next year.
