What do you do when you Wake Up and it's Raining?

I have been there many times in the rain (I go in summer so I expect it & it is nice warm rain vs the cold rain we get here in CT).

On our first full day/first park day in 2002 I woke up to thunder & lightening & rain. I figured it was a passing storm & it was but it took a few hours.

Luckily we were headed to the MK which I must say is a great park for the rain since the attractions are pretty close to one another.

We got wet in the am, no biggie since we dried off once the sun came out but boy was it steamy.

That same trip on our last full day/last park day, that night we headed to Epcot.

Epcot is not a good park to go when it is raining. If it was just dh & I it wouldn't of been a problem but we had our only child with us at the time & she was 15 mo old.

We ran & then stopped, ran & then stopped, ate at The Land, waited, ran & then stopped & then we just ran back to the monorail & went back to the Poly.

If we think we may get wet from either rain or rides, we bring (or wear) shoes that can get and have a back up, too. I have also seen people wearing board shorts of some other type of clothing made out of quick drying fabric. I mean, yes, you'll get wet, but I always loved playing in the rain as a kid. I just try to remember how much fun it was doing this when I was younger. I guess it as is much a state of mind as anything else. Lightening is, of course, anothe matter. We've been fortunate though, and haven't had that problem yet.

I have never had it happen at Disney, but it has when I went to Cedar Point (in Ohio) a few years ago. It only rained in the morning and kept many of the peple out of the park. I pray for a rainy morning every time I go to an amusement park now.

Throw that poncho on and hit the parks!! You would be surprised at the number of people that leave or don't come at all when its raining.

If it's raining in the morning when we wake up, we normally have a character breakfast at our resort and usually by the time we're done, the rain has at least slowed down. We always take dollar store ponchos from home and a stroller rain cover, so we're prepared for rain. We go to parks and have even been at MK during a thunder storm and we took shelter in the Mickey 3D show and hit all the other rides in Fantasyland once the thunder ended and we virtually walked right on all the rides. It was great. As someone else mentioned above, Epcot is good for rain storms too because you can spend hours in each building and that soaks up a lot of time for the rain to stop.

What kind of sandals? We are going in Sept & I would like to buy shoes soon to break them in over the summer. Leather? The cloth strap kind? 5 & 6 Yr olds & dh & I (plus a 6 mos old who I would like to match us but no need to break in!)

Both LL Bean and Lands End have extremely comfortable sandals and shoes for the whole family that can get wet. Just go to their online stores to check them out. They both have styles similar to crocs, and a large variety of sneakers & sandals, too. (If you have a Sears near you, they carry a small selection of Land's End shoes.)

I can vouch for the LL Bean shoes - I wear them all of the time. In fact, I purchased a brand-new pair of LLBean slide sneakers for my last WDW trip, and wore them the whole time without even breaking them in first. I had comfy feet, that's for sure!

If you get something like these for your family to wear, you won't have to worry about them getting wet, or about bringing an extra pair of shoes along just in case.

Other good shoes are Teva's and Keen's. We've worn them in literal downpours and our feet were quite comfortable soaking wet.

If we wake up and it's raining we 1.) Do a happy dance and 2.) Get dressed really fast and head for the parks!

Rain turns tourists into mega wimps = very light crowds! Good grief, it's Florida so when it rains it's still 80+ degrees and it never lasts more than 15 minutes unless it's a direct hurricane hit.

Don't buy leather sandals LOL, they'll STINK if they get wet and dry over and over. Buy something like the Crocs or Teva type sandals. We made the mistake of having leather sandals one year and when they asked us to remove our sandals before Soarin' started.....my son almost passed out from the smell of his own wet feet LOL
