What do you do when you stumble on a good deal?

Yesterday at Target, girls jeans were marked down to $2.48. I was not planning on buying girl's jeans, but since they were so cheap, I picked up 1 pair in DD's current size and 3 in the next size up. So I spent $10 on 4 pair of jeans. A great deal, but I was trying not to spend more than I had to (I was replacing curtains and a set of sheets, so I knew I would be spending quite a bit on that).

Do you scoop up deals when you happen upon them? Or leave them if you weren't planning on spending for that item?

Absolutely!

I don't think you can do much better than $2.48 jeans! I would have bought a ton! My daughter is so rough on her jeans.

I think it's situational based. That's a great deal on jeans, I would have done the same thing.

A few years ago I was at a Children's Place Outlet and they had a great deal on boys' shorts. They were .99 each and I had a 20% off total purchase coupon. My ds was in a 2T at the time. I bought every color in 2T, 3T, 4T, and 5T they had.

It depends on what it is, and how good the deal is! I think you made the right choice and will be glad when you have the next size on hand!

My daughter wears 18-24 months right now. Today when I was at Walmart, they had outfits for $1, so I bought her 2 in size 4. How could I pass up a shirt and legging set for $1!

Thanks for making me feel good about buying a few pairs. My DD is 10 years old now, and wears a girls 12. I rarely find great deals (I remember the days of toddler clothes and those great clearance deals!). My DD lives in jeans, and I am so thankful that she could care less about brands/labels. So $2.50 Target jeans work just fine for her!

Wish I could find some deals like that for my boys - they tear through pants in no time! And socks - I have never seen so many holey socks!!!!!

I bought the same jeans today. :thumbsup2

They're not exactly DD's preferred style, and they're definitely not her preferred brand, but she's heading to camp next week and I think they'll be perfect for that. There was only one pair left in the size I needed or I might have picked up more.

In general I tend to not buy a lot of clothes ahead of time though because I'm never sure about sizes and styles plus all too often I tuck them away and forget about them.

I bought the jeans last week in the next size up for my daughter. I figured by the time she will be needing them she will be in that size and if not she still has plenty in great shape for school.

I got the same deal last summer when we were in Florida and the jeans have held up quite nicely.

If I happen upon a good deal for something my kids will need soon than I do take advantage of it. I don't just buy because it is a good deal though. There has to be a need for it to justify it. I wouldn't buy a case of coffee if it was cheap because I don't drink coffee.

Boys pants- get them at Sears. They will replace them (same size) if they wear the knees out. I went through 3 rounds one year with my son. (I used to joke he must walk on his knees across sandpaper at school.)

If you get their brand (Canyon River Blues), you don't even need the receipt to exhange. If you get Levis there, you do need to hold onto the slip.

Not sure if they sell socks. I did find one of the brands Target carried wore a little better. (Sorry not sure what it was- not Hanes/FotL...)

Yep..I snap them up and off they go into the gift closet. I got my DGS several nice pairs of pants for $3.00 each at WalMart awhile ago and they'll come in handy for back to school and birthdays.

If it is something I'll use, then I stock up. I passed on the jeans because my DD6 doesn't wear them and because she's at an ackward size; very tall but not stick thin. Hard to dress her; she's the height of a big girl with the body of a little girl.

As long as you HAVE the money, you save money to buy a great sale find. We love to buy clothes off season and stock up on good grocery store finds. If you use credit (we never do), it's not worth the added interest most of the time. Sounds like you found a good deal:)

Always always jump on those deals esp when my DD's was little an willing to wear what ever bought for them.
Once got pampers at 1.50 a pack because pampers was changing them a bit got a whole closet full this was back when girls wore pink diapers an boys had blue my DD wore the blue ones at home. I had coupons for almost every pack I bought too some of the packs ended up costing me 50 cents, 75 cents an a 1.00.

Another time it was the Swimmies nevermind Gson was only 6 months old an it was dead of winter we had a pool so I knew we could use several packs if not him then they would make a great gift for someone. Ended up with another baby in family an between the 2 of them we used every swimmie an bought more.

25 cents for tank tops at Kmart in January they was all white but I could make them any color I wanted cheap enough they was a bit big an if I lost weight easy to take them up a size or 2.

Turtleneck tshirts for 50 cents in July they was black had many sizes but I knew about 50 ppl who could an would be glad to get them at 50 cents a piece sold every one of them that night an got my money back.

Christmas napkins for 10 cents a pack we used off those till like August that year.

DH has found female products at a very good price while shopping on his way home from work he felt a little stupid pushing a cart full of female products thru the store but there was only 5 females at home who could an would use them. He was willing to suffer the embaressment to save a few dollars.

It has to be something I will use tho or know ppl who will like the turtleneck tshirts I knew I could move those quicky. Doesn't matter how good the deal is if I can't use it then it not a bargain.

Now that I've moved away from the gkids I don't buy for them any more an my house is much smaller so I'd have a harder time storing stuff up ahead I still do it but in moderation.

I use the pantry method for grocery shopping so I always grab things that I know we'll need when I stumble upon a great deal.

Be aware that could change any day. I used to stock up on clothes, but when the kids reach a certain age, they want a say in what they wear.

If it is something I know I will use (and have used it in the past) and it's at a "rock bottom" or lower price, I stock up.

If it is something where I say "hey I have always wanted one of these" I will pass it up.

I have a line item on my YNAB account for clothing and we almost always have $$ in there so I would have just taken it out of our clothing budget.

It would be a waste NOT to take this deal and have to pay $15 or more PER PAIR later.

I'm actually trying to stop doing this. I find what happens is that I can always justify a good "deal". So now I stick to my budget. If my kids don't need jeans then no matter how good the deal I'm not buying them.

That's why I don't salivate at the word "sale". I think stores have now preconditioned us to respond when we see it. IMO, a deal is not a deal if you don't need it. or at least that's the mantra I'm embracing.

Did your daughter really need new jeans? did you buy them saying "she'll need them in the future"? How future is the future? next week sure, next September? no.

I have a part time retail job. I know we've all heard cotton is going up, well this weekend the jeans went up about 5 bucks a pair. Socks and panties have already gone up, next will be shirts. Boy jeans are now up to 18.99 a pair.

I haven't bought shampoo or conditioner in about eighteen months. About that long ago, I found my favorite brand on clearance at one store due to a packaging redesign. I bought it all :teeth:. I'm almost through with my last bottle of each :( and will have to do something soon, though.

I hestitate to go overboard. I have 2 girls and as much as I like to think that the older ones stuff will get passed down, they have two distinct body types. Older one likes jeans, the younger one doesn't. So it's a case by case on what I think we can pass down.
