I am very aware of what my kids have in terms of clothes and what they will be needing in the next few months. For example, my son is going to need pants before the fall. I go through their clothes (and make them try them all on, they hate it) about every three months and get rid of anything that is too small or worn.
So, when I am out and about and see a deal, I know whether the kids need it or not.
If I don't see anything and they need a large quantity of something, I go to Once Upon a Child. Usually, pants can be had for 5 dollars and under for the boy and jeans are under 10 for the girl. I have not seen a shirt that I liked that was more than 5 dollars for either of them there.
Our biggest problem is running shoes. I am constantly looking for deals since they go through a pair a month. If I see one, I will buy a couple of pairs and hope their feet don't grow too much (I still haven't had them grow out of a pair).
As for food, we use certain things all the time. I am very aware of price and if there is a sale, I buy enough to last about 3 months (usually there will be another sale by then).

That's a great deal, the material, thread, buttons, snaps or even elasttic would cost more than what you paid.
) since it was the last one, and an adorable Minnie tee for DD8. Thanks so much for sharing your great deal!
I was at a discount store, so they were "only" $36, then 50% off that... so the "SALE" price on those was $18... and I doubt they were any better than your Target jeans, just made in a different foreign factory and decorated with a different label.
Plus this same DD wore the same size for a good 3 years and if I bought something in a size up by the time it fit her it just wasn't something she liked anymore. I also realized never to buy anything when they are not with me unless I'm willing to return it since they usually don't like what I've picked out or would rather choose their own clothes. Now my youngest DD will NOT wear anything but dresses and the dress has to "spin". This has been going on for almost 3 years, so any shorts, pants, t-shirts ect. that I have bought her over the time all sit in her closet with the price tag still on them, or my niece gets some nice hand-me-downs
However if I see a great deal on paper towels or laundry detergent I might grab a bunch (3-5).
