What do you do when you can't get an ADR?

This will be our first time doing the dining plan and I have to say that I love all the planning but after reading all the posts the actual calling in for your ADR's seems a little intimidating.

I have all my reservations planned out, at least for the moment. My question is what do you do if you call in and a restaurant you want is not available for the day and time you want? Do you try to schedule something else or do you leave that one open and try again later?

Just curious.....

I have back ups and try and get one. Then I keep calling back to try and get my first choice

I rearrange my days. I generally ask for the hardest first and if the day or time is not good, I ask for a different day and then move that ADR into the first place. Though I'm different than most other visitors. I avoid all EMH days and will switch my park days if it suits me. I generally start with "do you have any dining times available for LeCellier for the week of ...."
