I have 2 old cell phones sitting around....should I just throw them away? Recycle them? What do you normally do w/them? I mean, they would work, with service obviously, its just that we got newer ones.

In our area you can donate them to various organizations that reconfigure them to just dial 911. They're then given to Battered Women's shelters. Try calling your local Police Station and see if they have any information on this.

You can recycle them at Best Buy. Or donate them to a local woman's shelter. The company that I work for has a recycling committee that takes old cell phones and then donates them on behalf of the company.

But whatever you decide to do, please don't just throw them out.

We turn them into the police station. They give them to local battered womens shelters :thumbsup2

Our Sprint store has a donation box sitting by the door for old cell phones.

I give them to the local women's shelter. They are then setup to dial 911 and given to women in abusive situtations to be able to call for help.

I manage a group of over 50 cell phones..I also donate them to the local SAFE house for women and children. They are able (in most places) to dial 911, as the other posters have said.

My local Curves has a box to donate old phones - they recycle them.

When I was in charge of cell phones for my (very large) company, I contacted the American Red Cross and donated hundreds of outdated models. You could call your local ARC and see if they accept them.

Donating them to a battered women's shelter is what we once did. Lately DD has taken to playing with our old ones.
