What do you do on your last day?

Apart from shedding a few tears that is!

As check out time for villas/hotels is usually 10.30am & flights are 6pm or later, what do you do all day?

Do you treat it as a normal park day, shopping etc?

In the past, some years we have been lucky in managing to have a late check out from our rented villa, so we were able to use it as a base for the last day - pick up a few more bargains from the shops, have a final swim shower etc and a leisurely trip to the airport. However, on the times we didn't manage a late check out, the day seemed to drag somehow. We checked in our bags at DTD, had lunch, did some shops, but we still seemed to have several hours to kill.

I'm not sure, I would be up to a park on the last day, but has anyone got any new ideas on how to fill an afternoon in a not too strenuous manner!:D

We normally check out, go for a swim and just relax. This trip we have a later flight, so what I am planning is to buy a boxed lunch, rent a pontoon boat and go for a sail. Stop out in the lagoon for a lovely picnic lunch before leaving the resort:D

We are up early - get the Bell services to look after our bag's and then hit a park or have a resort character breakfast We leave the park around midday then head back to the resort for a late lunch before heading off to the airport and then start weeping LOL ;)

We're the same Maxine.
It's difficult to know what to do on that last day...
The last couple of trips however we've had quite early flights, due to indirect flights. This year we're looking forwards to a nice late afternoon departure so will have to think what to do on that last day.
I think I'll ask our villa owners if we have to be out on time, if not it'll be a relaxing swim and a bit of shopping, (once we've got all that luggage to DTD)

In previous years we have just mopped out, passing the time to the dreaded flight time. This past October we spent the early part of the morning packing and loading up the rental car. Then we went to Epcot and met two fellow disers for lunch. After lunch we spent a little more time in Epcot and then headed for the airport.

Hope this helps.

Seaworld used to a 2nd day free with a 1 day ticket to be used within 7 days. We used the 2nd day on this day and it worked out quite well as Seaworld is quite a leisurely day after Disney. Usually have a 8:30pm Virgin flight and left the park at 5ish went for a snack and away to the airport.

Whatever you do it will not detract from the fact that you are going home - but best to make the most of it.

Good luck

Hi

I like the sound of the Pontoon boat and picnic lunch. Seaworld is another good idea as it is a more leisurely pace than the other parks.

We usually fly back on the earlier Virgin flight, but this time we could only get the 8.30pm flight, so it means a couple more hours to kill. I think the problem is if you get to the airport too early, there's not really a lot to do there - once you've bought a few last minute souveniers.

Whilst I really like to shop, the problem on the last day is what to do if you buy a lot! We plan on checking in our bags at DTD, so whatever we buy would have to go as hand luggage - kind of takes the thrill out of the shop if you're restricted by size/volume!

No worries there Maxine.
We checked 3 of our bags at DTD and kept one back so we could go shopping. When you get to the airport, if you already have boarding passes, you don't have to wait in the check-in queue. Just grap the nearest Virgin person and they'll help you check it in!

The last time we visited Orlando we had most of the morning until late afternoon.
We first went the see the Titanic exhibition, and then spent some time shopping up at the Belz.

This time, because we have kids along we are thinking of booking a PS at Cindy's breakfast, and giving them the morning in MK.

Rannoch

We normally stay at the villa until the latest that we can (around 10.30 a.m.) then we go and play a game of crazy golf, this helped the children release some excess energy, and last time we then went to the airport and checked in - this was in the morning and pre DTD check in reopening - we then went to the pictures near the airport and had a meal it was great and the kids were really exhausted when we got on the plane. We made a family decision not to go to a theme park on the last day - as we weren't sure that we would drag ourselves away in time to catch the plane.... oh we missed it we will just have to stay another day!!!!

Ah, now here is a definite advantage of the DVC. Pack and have bell services pick up our luggage at store it by 11.00am.

Now we can relax by the pool all day, have a relaxing lunch, then use the health club facilities to shower and get ready before leaving for the airport.

This is a sort of slowing down procedure before leaving for home. It doesn't cut down on the sadness though.

Like Kev, we check-out and leave our luggage with bell services, (as we're always in a WDW resort by the end of our trip), having packed a separate holdall with our travelling clothes and a wash bag.

We then head to the resort pool changing rooms and put the holdall in a locker for the day.

If we have a pass that will allow it, we then set off for a park or two, have an early lunch in the park and then head back to the resort. If we don't have any park days left on a pass, we go to DD, Boardwalk, resort hop, or just relax around the resort until the afternoon.

We retrieve our holdall, shower and change in the pool changing rooms, collect the rest of the luggage from bell services and then set off for the airport.

This is why I don't think the Virgin DD check-in would be any advantage to us.
