What do you do for groceries for a longer stay?

We're staying 10 days and weighing out all our options for food. Right now I am leaning towards bringing a few things, getting water delivered and buying thinks like milk, bread at the resort shop.

But I am stumped on produce. I would like to have some things like bananas and apples but I don't know if it's worth it to pay for Garden Grocer and bananas wouldn't keep 10 days anyway.

Ideas?

It looks like you are from Canada, correct? If so, will you be renting a car? If not, you could either buy produce piece by piece at a quick service, or plan via a cab to go to a grocery story twice during your trip so you have fresh produce.

Not planning on renting a car or cabbing. I think it may be a better use of our time to spend $3 or $4 each day then deal with the hassles.

Our kids like the squeezable pouches of fruit so we pack those.

We just got back today and we used Garden Grocer to deliver food. You can get just about anything that you want from a grocery store. It is a little pricey, but worth it to take away the hassle. The food arrived at our resort at about 9:30, and bell services brought it to the room for us. There was an item missing, which was re-delivered the next day. The resort stores have very limited selections of produce and deli products.

There are other grocery delivery services available as well. Another popular one with DIS'ers is We Go Shop.

We like both of these. It is tough to do produce shopping for a 10 day trip and have it all last. I'd just get a bunch delivered (mostly fresh, maybe a few packaged) and supplement it with things you can find at the resort shops.

Do garden grocer, include the milk and bread.

After seven days when you need bananas or other produce, you can get them from the resort shops. They'll be expensive and the selection will be limited. Or have GG do a second delivery for additional milk/bread/eggs/produce around day six.

Back in Feb. we went to WDW and decided to not rent a car or use a shopping service. I figured that I would just pack some items and pick up the rest in the resort store. BIG mistake. Paying $1.50 for a piece of fruit got really old fast - the selection is not the greatest for a long trip - I will never attempt this for a trip longer than a few days. Your experience may be different - just my 2 cents.

Pack some stuff, then a 24 hour car rental for groceries may be your least expensive way to go.

I appreciate your input.

I think we'll probably do an order and then just make due when we run out. Grab 1 or 2 things in the store and get fruit with all the kids meals. I don't think it makes sense for a 2nd order.

When you look at GG's website, you can actually order "green" bananas, which would then ripen over the course of your stay. Unfortunately, they only sell bananas in singles or bunches of 10#, but maybe you could buy just a few single "green" bananas for the end of the trip. Other than that, I would think most fruit would last the 10 days. I would be most worried about lettuce.

There is an area to make specific requests when you order from them, so perhaps let them know that you will be staying 10 days and that you would like items with an expiration beyond that timeframe.

Enjoy your trip!
