What do you do at the beach for a week?

Oh my God, I love our beach vacations. We usually go to Disney in May and it's commando touring all the way. Up at 7 AM for 8:10 character breakfasts-parks all day-dinner around 8 Pm and then something in the night time.

In contrast to that we go to a Southern beach every June or July and veg. It's wonderful. Last June we did Sunset Beach NC, we have also done Myrtle Beach SC many, many times as well as the Outer Banks. I think I liked Sunset Beach the best. Very laid back beach town with tons of golf courses, nice people, not as much traffic as Myrtle beach. However, it's only 20 minutes away from Myrtle Beach.

We get up whenever we all wake up, eat breakfast, go to the beach. We bring a cooler of Coronas, limes, those things that keep bottles cold, and water bottles. Sometimes we bring sandwiches too. DH and I read while the kids play and relax. Around 2 or 3 PM we go back to the pool. DH and I usually make big things of Margaritas at our villa to bring to the pool with us. There is also a pool bar. ;) We stay for a while and then go to the villa to shower for dinner. We go out about 4 times that week, the other nights we cook or get steamed crabs or something.

It would honestly be a tough call to decide which vacation I love more...Disney or our beach trips.

We play a bowling type game. Dig two holes about 20 feet apart and roll the balls in. We use three balls that are solid rubber about 3-4" in diameter. We have teams and the competition goes on all week.

::yes:: This is us. Although we haven't tried Sunset Beach - I'll have to look into that one. We tried Topsail Island, NC and while lovely the mosquitos were out of control. Anyway, the beach is complete opposite of Disney. Just sleep, relax, drink, eat, read, sleep, hottub, sleep, etc. Did I mention sleep?

Hmmmm, I love the beach.

What do I do for a week at the beach? Relax for a few hours in the evening with my toes in the sand, then wish I were somewhere else for the next five days. Just not a beach person.:confused3

Boy, that sounds terrible! All this time I thought maybe I was missing something. I relax at home where my 4 yo is contained. ;) I would never go in the ocean to swim or whatever, ewwww. I use spf 40 when out in the sun and have a giant hat. I don't tan I just burn and freckle. I also don't like the heat.

I do think the ocean is beautiful but, every time I have been there I look at it for like 3-4 minutes and say "that's pretty, now what should we do?"

I am really glad people enjoy it is just completely opposite from what I like.

I guess to each his own, but next to Disney World, Myrtle Beach is our favorite place in the world! We find that a week is not long enough, we would love to do 10 days at a time. There is SO much to do besides laying on the beach, but we like to stay at hotels that have the pools close to the ocean so we can lay out and rotate between the pool and the beach. I can't imagine a summer without Myrtle!

I love beach vacations.. My kids snorkel and fish. dh and I relax.. :thumbsup2

This post sounded just like me last night. i was looking at all the different islands to go visit and then I thought to myself, it's not worth it because I don't like the beach. It's better for me to do a cruise where i get one day at a different place. We did a cruise last year and we only went in the water once in haiti. I like to look at the water, but that's about it. plus I work right on the ocean front and haven't been to the beach in 10 plus years!
I'm more into sightseeing and cities!

We have a "shore" house, yes I am from Jersey. We are down the shore for most of the summer. We sleep late, spend the day on the beach, hit the boardwalk @ night for dinner & maybe some games or we head over to our friends house in Toms River for dinner and drinks. (no we do not cook dinner down the shore, our house is super tiny and cooking is really just not practical.) Long walks on the beach at night & maybe play some basketball too. Clearly when we have children ( we are in the planning stages) this will change lol. We love, love, love our beach time. Is it Memorial Day weekend yet?

That sounds like fun! I might have to borrow that idea! :) :goodvibes

Would you mind sharing the name of any hotels that you stay at when you go to Myrtle Beach? My dh's family goes to the mountains of NC every summer. I am trying to convince our 4 kids to try a beach vacation and they are hesitant. They have never seen the ocean!

I always research the area. When we went to Maderia Beach, Fl we took a tour of the football stadium of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, took in a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game. Also dh and ds take golf clubs and cheap balls and hit them on the beach and into the gulf. And we always find a place to have ice cream for dinner on one night.

I havent read the other posts, but I think it depends on if you are a beach person or not.Sounds like your not. I think I would kill myself if I think I had to go to the beach every day for a week LOL and I dont think my family would enjoy it either. We did, however go to Virginia Beach for vacation last April vacation and enjoyed it. It was colder than usual, but the kids did actually swim. We did, however, do lots of other things, I bought a Frommers book for the area and chose the activities that sounded like fun. It was one of the best vacations ever. We got the Best Western right on the beach for 50 dollars a night. It wasnt great, but it was fine and I LOVED looking out and seeing the water every day. We did things like Chincoteague Island, the aquarium, shopping, etc, it was fun! I guess you make it what you want, but, if you dont like the beach, plan other fun things. Have fun whatever you decide.

I didn't think I would like the beach vacation either, but I loved it. You should give it a try! I can't swim and thought I'd be bored out of my mind, but it was so relaxing! It is a complete contrast from Disney. With Disney, my family is non stop moving and we tour commando style as another poster mentioned. We like to open the parks and close the parks and we absolutely love it, but it is totally exhausting! The beach vacation was so laid back and we enjoyed more intimate time with family members. Just not having to do anything was nice. With all this mentioned, I don't know if I'd enjoy more than a week, however.
Another fun idea is to invite close family friends to join you. The children have friends and that gives adults more relaxation too. Also, the vacation that we went with friends, was very budget friendly! We split the resort cost and the vacation was very CHEAP! We grocery shopped and cooked some of our meals. We all agreed that we'd do our own thing before we decided to go together. We have wonderful memories with friends. Again, I'd give the beach a try.
