Hello!

WDW vet back here again.

Just a question about how you do breakfast at DLR.

At WDW, there are fastfood courts at all the resorts and 90% of people grab some food there and then head to the parks.
From what I have seen with the hotels at DLR ( I am going to be staying at PPH) there are not any Fastfood courts.
I am the kind of person to get up early, have a bite and then hit the parks, so I am not a huge fan of breakfast character meals.

So, what does everyone do about breakfast before a day at the park?

We generally grab a granola bar (or more recently, a MoJo bar b/c it has protein) and a water and head to the parks. Then as we get hungry after a couple hours in the parks we'll stop at Tomorrowland Terrace for a platter (their platters include a beverage!) of eggs and potatoes or french toast sticks. Or we'll hop early over to DCA, grab a FP for Soarin and Grizzly (you can hold a FP for Grizzly while holding another b/c Grizzly is disconnected from DCA's system), head into Grand Californian and grab breakfast at WhiteWater Snacks.

There's also RiverBelle Terrace at the junction of New Orleans Square, Frontierland, and Adventureland (I'm sure it's just in ONE of those places, but I see it as being at the junction); they are the only place to get Mickey Mouse pancakes! So it was a MUST do last trip for DS. :)

If lines aren't long I'll grab an iced latte from somewhere, b/c I love them (and it's hard to mess up an iced latte even when using Nescafe, LOL) rather than a normal cup of coffee, though during our May stay hubby headed to starbucks while DS and I were getting ready for the day. (but they actually mess up iced lattes more often than Disneyland does!)

So that's what we do.

You can also go to Vons or Albertsons for food (or have those stores deliver after ordering through their websites) to have bagels or somethign in the morning, then have lunch on the earlier side, which is a good idea anyway to avoid the horrid lines at some places!

Microwave a bowl of oatmeal in my hotel room. I like a hot breakfast before I do the mad dash to Peter Pan's Flight.

In the past we've done all of the following...

Had breakfast in the room (cereal. Our room has a fridge for milk.)
Stopped at Denny's before heading to the parks
Stopped at Blue Ribbon Bakery on Main Street for pastries and mochas

For breakfast, I've eaten at:

*Carnation Cafe
*Tomorrowland Terrace
*Grabbed a little something from the bakery on MS

We have started ordering groceries on our trips and having them delivered to the hotel. Helps keeps cost down on water, snacks, breakfast. On our longer trips we even order sandwich stuff and chips and eat a couple of meals in the room. It helps force us have some down time and be able to take time to hang out at the pool as well. We have ate at Riverbelle, Goofy's, Lilo and Stictch, WWS for breakfast as well.

We usually share a burrito and fruit (DH adds cinnamon roll) at Whitewater Snacks..or have a granola bar and coffee in room then eat later in the parks. OT but I'm worried that when the Grand Californian expansion and DVCs there open WWS will be very busy..ick..I love the uncrowded-ness of that place.

Only the value and some moderate hotels at WDW have the food courts. The three hotels at DL are considered moderate to deluxe. There are a few places to grab a quick bite. Each of the three hotels have coffee shop type places where you can grab a cub of coffee and a pastry. If you walk through GCH to get to the parks, Whitewater snacks is there with a heartier menu. Also while you walk through DTD there are several places to grab simething before the park opens. We are not big breakfast people. We will often bring breakfast snacks and cheese to get us out the door. Then grab something around 10:00 in the park usually a character brakfast late as a brunch.

We usually either have stuff in our hotel room (plain yogurt, protein powder, nuts, fruit) or grab something on our way there (Denny's, IHOP, Mimi's)

Because our family drives to DLR, we've started taking an ice chest with us. We fill a couple of empty milk jugs w/water and freeze them, rather than using loose ice. They last for the 5 days we're usually there. We also wash out some empty water bottles and fill those with milk, since milk can get pretty expensive in DLR. I stop by Costco and pick up a package of muffins and some of the individual size boxes of cereal, and we have breakfast in the room. That way we're not wasting precious un-crowded early morning touring time at a sit-down meal.

Ditto what ballerinamom says - there is a counter service location in PPH or alternatively you can walk through GCH to WWS, which has a great breakfast burrito. Ralph Brennan's in DTD has beignets, La Brea Bakery has breakfast items. Just south of PPH at the corner of Katella and Disneyland Drive is Coco's coffee shop.

Note: Going through GCH is actually the most direct way to get to the park entrances from PPH, although WWS is in a cul-de-sac within the hotel, east of the pool complex. I think only GCH guests can use the special DCA entrance near WWS.

We stay at places that provide a hot breakfast and the ancillaries. Gives us a great start. Since there are 6 of us we calculate the cost of what we eat off the room charge to make comparisons to other places to stay. We always have groceries at the hotel with a place to fix the food. The place we stay at shops for us and puts the groceries in the room so it does not take away from the time we have.It works for us.

if you can get a good concierge rate at the disney hotels that is good. if not the hampton inn and suites continental with some hot items( beds are sooo comfy)/ and the Hilton Anaheim suites-full breakfast buffet and my fav off site.(also indoor pool) are my fav places to stay.

I am not a huge breakfast fan, I usually just start with lunch but we stopped by McDonald's right across from DL a few times to grab breakfast for everyone else and ate as we walked to the parks.

So, what does everyone do about breakfast before a day at the park?

When staying on Harbor Blvd, McD's & Dennys are good choices for a quick Bfast (if you don't get a continental Bfast).

BUT.....you're staying at the Paradise Pier. No food court & no cheap quick breakfast places. For a quick breakfast....I'd consider:

- Bringing some breakfast items into the room (small fridge). or
- Split some room service breakfasts (which is what i did last time).

Here's a blurb from my one day trip report from Oct.:
So why the Pier??? & Why on a Wednesday night??? Some would ask??

But not my fellow Diser's !! They know that if one is planning an impromtu trip to visit "Mom" & spend one mega day at DLR.....then OBVIOUSLY one gets an AP rate at the PP ($139 Baybeee!!!) & books it so he/she can do EE.....er Magical Morning the next morning (Baybee!!! ) & it's even better (to me) that MM starts at 8am (so we're not hanging with the newpaper delivery guys at 7am).

Alec zombie walks with me into the Pier & we're given 2 magical cards for room keys....THAT WE WILL NEED TO TAKE TO MM IN THE MORNING....(good to know ). We park the Impalamobile in the garage (knowing of course that we won't retrieve it till LATE the next night.....cause that's what cool dissers do. ) & we grab our ONE suitcase (that rolls) & off to our 14th floor room with a view of the parking lot . BTW, it's ONE suitcase because we don't have shampoo or extra underwear or really anything but the "bare necessities".....you may hum to Phil Harris/Baloo if you want to....that two DUDES would need....which isn't much.

I don't DO room service. Tax/Tip/Delivery Fee....nope, not for me....ever. But Alec looks at the room service propoganda sheet & says "Dad, the Big Breakfast looks pretty good".....& dad contemplates the fact that we need to get up at 6:15am (& who the heck knows what might be open at that hour).....& we're walking thru DTD, not by MickeyDs... so what the heck.

A quick aside......And you know what??? It's a good deal. We split 3 scrambled eggs, 4 pieces of bacon, two pastries, potato/peppers/onions mixture, juice & coffee. Worked out to 8 bucks per dude (including tip)....& it fed both of us.

So before watching the the 6 disney channels on the PP TV & falling asleep, we put the little Room Service propoganda sheet on the door knob & they delivered it at 6:20am (10 min. after we got up).....so we were fed, clean & out the door by 7:15am. Because (as you know) cool disers ALWAYS are near the front of the line for DL MM opening.

We did the PP-DL "stroll"....walked thru the GCH..... & out into DTD & then on to DL. The best 1/2 mile stroll in the world.....thru the prettiest hotel....& thru a cool outdoor shopping mall (if you're into that sort of thing)....on a pretty & crisp morning.....& on to the most magical place on earth.

If you haven't seen Hydroguy's sticky & his tip threads for WDW vets, you should definitely read.

Have a great time at Walt's Park. :thumbsup2

Last year we stayed at Camelot. We at the complimentary breakfast, and had McDonalds (the evils of staying right next to McDonalds - we were so sick of it!!).

This year, the day we arrive, I plan on going to LaBrea the day we arrive and grabbing some pastries, croissants, etc. to take back to the hotel for breakfast. We also plan on bringing Nutrigrain bars, and other breakfast items.

DH and I are not much of breakfast eaters. Our son, OTOH, eats breakfast. I don't think DH could pass up a delicious croissant with jam though!! (Nor could I, LOL!!)

Microwave a bowl of oatmeal in my hotel room.

We totally do this too. dd & I love oatmeal.
I also bring a cheap toaster, a loaf of raisin cinnamon bread and a stick of butter.

One night I picked up muffins/pastries @
Blue Ribbon Bakery on the way out of the park and we ate that the next morning. I walked across the street to Mimi's in the am & picked up a mocha to go.

We do about the same - protein bar in line, going commando while the park is waking up, then a nice breakfast/brunch later in the morning. :thumbsup2

I can't spend valuable park time eating breakfast! :rotfl2:
