What do you Cook in the DVC Kitchen?

The extent of our cooking is White Castles or TGI Fridays in the microwave...goes great with a savignon blanc or a belgian beer or a vodka/cranberry.

We often cook big breakfasts in our rooms, but I don't think I've ever made a lunch or dinner.

We do have wine in the evenings alot though, sometimes with brie or other snacky things!

I don't cook in the villa, but my DH has to have this noxious "breakfast burrito" that he makes EVERY morning. It's refried beans, salsa, a LOT of shredded cheese and scrambled EGG SUBSTITUTE (go figure) wrapped in a tortilla and waved. This man just retired after a 35 year career as a Board Certified Internist. He's eaten this thing every morning for as long as I can remember. It's also why we stay in for breakfast, hence my Cheerios.

I don't even like the smell of his BB in the AM, but he's healthy as a horse and he has to have it. Even on vacation. And lord knows (gasp), he can't play golf later without it. So we have to make a trip to Walmart for a big bag of his breakfast burrito stuff. I just quietly sip my coffee and munch my Cheerios - on the balcony.

I have to admit that on our trip last fall at BWV, I broke down and ordered breakfast from room service. It was great.

Tell him he can use real eggs. They aren't the villians they were thought to be.

Refried beans--- Bet everyone can hear him hit a golf ball:rolleyes1

I'm back!

First night I reheated the pulled pork I had made at home in the crock pot and served it with fresh french hamburger buns and a salad. And made brownies.

Second night we did grownup night and had the kids in the studio part while the grownups watched Wild Hogs and drank wine. I can't, for the life of me, remember what we ate that night...but we definitely had brownies and ice cream.

Third night Shutters restaurant at Vero. 126 bucks for two adults and two kids, no adult beverages. What a ripoff, there weren't even any characters

Fourth night Squid Lips restaurant. Really good!

Fifth night Stouffer's laganga with an extra bag of italian cheese on top, salad, texas toast. And brownies.

I've discovered that I really enjoy brownies and ice cream while on vacation!

At some point I'll remember what I made on Wild Hogs night...

This trip that ended on Tuesday, our in-villa cooking was limited to little more than poptarts, popcorn, and fuzzy navels. :)

Joining in because you guys have great ideas! We're going for the first time in August, so I'm not sure how it'll all work out.

As far as making Spanish rice--I cook regular rice, then stir in a jar of salsa. Mild in our house, because we have little ones, but you could go spicy.

KJJ--Glad you enjoyed the brownies, I may try that, too, as a snack to have available.

I like the idea of grilling a number of meat items at once, then using them throughout the trip, too.

... just stopping in to say how hungy I am now after reading this thread!
:goodvibes

I am trying to figure out how to get my crockpot here with us, that's going to bea trick. I plan to bring some pre-made seasoning packets with me. We will make a grocery run before we have to return our rental, so I will get the meats that we want. We can go to the parks and come back home to warm yummies or leftovers ;-)

I also plan to make a tuna salad and quick stuff for sammies for afternoon breaks. Breakfast will be cold cereal and pop tots.

In the beginning I brought all kinds of things, eggs, butter, oil, chicken, rice, etc.

But as it has evolved I now bring G&T, starbucks, rum, water, fruit, cookie mix, ceral, more G&T, pretzels and snacks. We buy milk and oj at the store and then get the dining plan.

I want to feel like I am on vaction.

Lol - yup, I'm glad I don't have to stand behind him on the golf course. I think the egg substiitute is just habit. He can eat eggs without a problem, but he likes the handy little box the fake ones come in. In the burrito he makes, I doubt he can taste a difference. :crazy2:

That burrito is right up DH's alley!!!

We just did a little shopping for our upcoming trip and it was all 'junk' Pop tarts, cereal bars and crackers. We are using the DDP so the kids can have a ton of character meals and we are just going to eat in the room for breakfast.

Silly question - any way we can get alcohol if we are flying in and taking the ME?? We aren't renting a car as there is too much to deal with with 3 little ones in car seats and boosters still!

You can order groceries from Garden Grocer dot com and they will also purchase beer, wine and liquor. I have used this service twice and been happy both times. If you are not there when they deliver, bell services have refridgerators. I think there is a $50 minimum and a delivery fee.

ETA: Whatever you do not see on the GG website, just add it to the comments section and they will purchase it.

Ok, who wants to compile a DVC Cook Book??!!! lol

Our upcoming trip in June is planned to be very laid back with most meals in....getting my shopping list ready for wegoshop now...thanks for the ideas here! DH sure will be busy! LOL
