What do you carry money wise?

I gave trips to WDW for Christmas this year and will be down there Jan 9th-Jan 15th with my adult son and his 8 y/o daughter. I will be paying for the entire trip. The hotel, airline tickets, Richard Petty Driving Experience, La Nouba tickets, and park tickets are already paid for. I should only need money for the towncar driver, tips, food, and souveniers. I have PS for Chef Mickey's, Donald's Breakfastosaurus, Whispering Canyon, CRT ($25.00 deposit of which is paid for), CP, Hollywood & Vine, and Bomas. Oh yeah! I also have $200.00 in disney dollars I'll be giving my son just so he'll have some money when he's away from me and he's said he'll have some money of his own as he plans on taking alot of his check that week with him. My GD would rather ride than shop, but will want some souveneirs I know. I want a Disney totem pole from WL, several post cards, rose water from Morocco, perfume from Norway, two pressed penny books, two pairs of autographed Mickey ears, several silver charms, Mickey pasta, and a couple of magnets. I'm sure I'll find a few other things while I'm down there too. Anyway I have no idea how much money to take with me. I went to the bank the other day and picked up $1000.00 in traveler's checks and about $145.00 crisp bills for tips ($1.00, $5.00, and two $10.00 bills to tip the towncar driver), and plan to take at least $500.00 cash with me. I hate to carry anymore than I need, but also don't want to run short. Of course, I'll have a credit card and my debit card with me, but really don't want to use them. For two adults and one child, how much money would you carry and how would you carry it (cash, traveler checks, or just use credit card)?

I would take the cash, put it as a credit on the room and use the room key for charging. I never bother with travelers checks when in WDW. If we are satying on site I charge everything to the room. Much easier. Your son can also have charging privleges and it just makes it easier. ALso sounds like your fine for now. I would not take anymore cash. If you run short just use the cc and pay it when you get home.

We just use credit cards where we can and that's less paper to carry. Losing cash is awful and traveler's checks, regardless of the ads, are a pain to replace. Credit cards are carried by most people anyway and take up little space, and if stolen, you're only liable for the first $50 on each card. I think it's just a lot easier. You can also buy a "credit" card with certain amount on it and then you use only what you budget for. As far as I know, American Express, Visa and Mastercard have those cards. I know parents who buy those for their kids for shopping, emergencies, gas for cars, etc so they don't have to worry about them overspending on credit cards.

I wouldn't take that much cash. Notify your credit and debit card company that you will be going on vacation. We also like the room charge and check the front desk several times to make sure the bill is correct.

I only bring enough for a meal up and back on the drive and some to cover snack carts, arcade, etc. Usually about $100 plus I have my rewards card. My DD gets Disney Dollars plus she has her Visa BUXX card. Tickets, room etc are paid before hand as are the meal vouchers I bought. EVERYTHING else is charged to the room and I just pay the credit card bill when I get home. I HATE carrying cash (I rarely have more than $20-40 in my pocket)
