We go to one about once a week.

We buy:

Italian white bread... like the sliced ones that you see in the grocery store for $2.99... well the one I bus is a buck and every bit as good as the grocery store variety.

Animal Crackers.... huge bag for a buck.... these are my kids preferred treats for a packed lunch

Party Supplies

and once in a while we buy candy for the movies.

a lot of spices, pickels, condiments, plastic storage bags, laundry detergent, plastic storage bins, hangers......almost anything!

The list would be too long - LOL - but some of the things I always get are:

Scrapbook supplies
Office supplies
Hard-covered, lined journals
Cookbooks - when they have them
Pretty decorated stationery
Stickers
Calling cards (as much as 60 minutes for a buck)
Holiday napkins/plates/cups

and lots, lots more! Love those Dollar Stores - and love the fact that there are several different ones that don't all carry the same stuff..:thumbsup2

I buy....

cleaning supplies(they have **** and span orange concentrate for $1)
treats for our children's church treasure box
greeting cards
books
pens
tape
cat toys
make-up
craft stuff
candy(name brand)
garbage bags
plastic utensils
ziploc bags
sunglasses
kleenex
soap
shampoo
deodorant

and the list goes on.....I won't buy food that is an off brand there, but I will buy brand name food or candy.

I actually don't like them much at all but my friend said dollar tree had Christmas wrap which I needed so I went in and got some. I am in and out of those places though as fast as can be. I have also heard you have to check the expiration dates on the food if you buy it there.

I usually only buy gift bags from there. Everything else always looks picked over and dusty.

We have a great Dollar Tree. I buy teacher goods there like the punch out letters, die-cuts, pencils, seasonal paper goods. I also buy gift bags, bows, wrapping paper and mylar balloons. I will not buy food there though.

Awesome cleaner
got my disney shoe bag (for personal care products)there 10 yrs ago it still going strong
dish liquid
make up
blistex
duffel bags
microfiber cleaning cloths
serving trays for parties
party supplies
greeting cards
mylar ballons
stocking stuffers
easter basket fillers
candy
animal crackers
book light
night lights
bags for disposable diapers
kitty litter bags

Many of the things I've been impressed with an other things not so much

scrubbie sponges
foil baking pans
christmas cards
gift bags (but only larger ones-the smaller ones are less than a dollar elsewhere)
wipe boards (kids need them for school every year)

the only food items i get are the spices, and roasted red peppers in a jar (both are fine, and the peppers cost me over $3 less per jar:eek:).

wrapping paper, gift bags.....
I will buy some things there like decorations but never ever would purchase any type of food, cleaning supplies or heath and beauty items there.

I only go about once every 6 months and I buy a bunch of reading glasses. That way I can leave them in my car, on my desk, on my bedside table, in my purse and anywhere else I want without worry.

A friend gave DD some soap years ago and DD had a *really* bad reaction, so I only buy things that aren't ingested or put on the skin (no lotions, no food, no candy, no toothpaste...they had an off-brand toothpaste - from a foreign country - that my DH bought one time that so clearly resembled Crest/Colgate the maker should have been sued). There's a similar store near us called Five & Below that DD & her friends like a lot.

But I understand others buy various things from The Dollar Store all the time and they're happy with the purchases and that's cool...hmmm, maybe I'll go back in and check one out.

agnes!

Even many of the toothpastes that SAY Crest/Colgate are from a foreign country- I read a whole article in a magazine once about that and why not to buy heath/beauty items from dollar stores.

Nothing- I hate the dollar store. The few times I've been I feel like I need a shower when I leave- the place is a dusty mess.

I only by cards and maybe gift bags. I won't buy food or anything that I put on or in my body. There has to be a reason this stuff is only 1 dollar and I am not going to be the one to find out why.

When my children were younger, I would buy party bags/baskets, small toys, and school supplies for birthday party favors. One day, I realized I was just wasting my money because all of that junk usually made its way into the trash after a while. I haven't been in a dollar store in a long time.

I rarely go to them, and I honestly don't know why except I guess I just don't enjoy shopping as much as I used to. I go to them a lot at Christmas time for inexpensive decorations, and lots of stocking stuffers for the grandkids. Occasionally I go at other times. Last week I bought a baby doll to have here at the house for my youngest granddaughter, and I wanted a small receiving-style blanket to have with it as well. The store had them, but in packages of 3 for $8.50. I didn't want 3, and I didn't want to spend $8.50 so I stopped at one of the dollar stores on my way home and got a really cute, very soft, baby blanket for $2.50. :goodvibes

They did have a sign on their door saying they are no longer accepting checks though, so that's too bad. I usually don't carry a lot of cash with me, and I don't like to charge stuff like that on my credit card and we don't have a debit card so that will be a little inconvenient for me at Christmas.
