What do women wear to get on the ship?

Thanks, all. I'm opting for shorts and a nice t-shirt, but I have dressier walking shorts and a blouse for later, just in case. :)

Sorry for taking the off topic, but have you shared your Princess experience somewhere here on the DIS in more detail? I would love to read about it as Princess is the one cruise line that interests me the most besides DCL.

I don't think so, not in detail. We're atypical Disney people though (no kids, don't care about costume characters or CMs "interacting" with us). That said, we loved Royal Princess for a five-night last October. We had a suite near the concierge lounge (no concierges hanging around to cater to your every whim like on DCL, but we didn't need that--lounge still had coffee, tea, water, drinks and snacks) and two decks down from the buffet. And wow, the buffet was *by far* the best of any cruise I've been on (DCL, NCL and Celebrity all fall behind it in the dust). We're not MDR people so it was heaven. As soon as you sit down, someone takes your drink order, and there are rarely bottlenecks or crowds.

We liked having access to a small casino, and the smoke seemed well controlled.

We admittedly spent a lot of time in our very nice room/on the balcony, so I can't recall a lot of other ship features or events, but I loved it and if Princess did more Carribbeans during spring/summer they'd be getting more of my money soon. (They have a few in Mar/April but it looks like they sold out).

I agree, it's pretty casual, shorts and a top is fine. We have worn matching shirts a few times when doing special cruises, with groups, celebrating a big anniversary, or after running the WDW marathon when cruising on the CC Challenge cruise.

I wore white pants and a blouse with anchors on it. It was actually a little cooler in Orlando and in evenings on the cruise when we went. If I was with my family I would likely do matching shirts. But I still have this top so it might make a reappearance on our next cruise!

What time of the year was that taken? Looks like every guy was in shorts.

I've cruised in February, November and December and the majority of people were wearing shorts. It's Florida and most of us come from outside Florida, so if it's cold back home then Florida feels downright balmy even if it's just 70* in the daytime.

We always coordinate our pant/short color and either make a custom shirt for the cruise or do something matching like different color mickey shirts. We always buy the boarding photo.

I generally wear long pants - usually khakis, cotton pants or some kind of soft knit pants and a short sleeve shirt. I always wear my jacket so that I don't have to back it due to the bulk or in case it's raining (and like Princess Shmoo, I often find it cold inside). I don't usually wear shorts because if I have to sit on a leather or plastic seat it will either be cold due to air conditioning or hot due to sun and my legs won't like either at all. Also, pants take up more space in the suitcase and, if for some reason my luggage takes a long time to arrive or doesn't arrive, it gives me long pants to be able to wear to dinner and as an additional set of clothing (I usually pack a bathing suit and shorts in my carry on).

We cruised last September for the first time, and my DH and I made matching tshirts for all of us (my inlaws came with DH,DD3, and me). I think we all wore denim shorts except for DD who wore a cute skort. Comfortable is always best! The outfits looking great in the boarding pictures was a nice bonus.

I half-jokingly apologized to my parents that I was sorry didn't get us matching shirts and I was met with a glare and a "thank you for not". :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

They are not a necessity nor are they for everyone. If they work for you and yours, great! But if not, don't feel obligated. We still ended up with a pretty cute boarding picture...

We always coordinate our outfits for the first professional photo, embarkation! If you notice my avatar (only part of my family can be seen), we're all wearing Minnie or Mickey t shirts. But we also all have on our swimsuits underneath! Every embarkation, we've coordinated our outfits, and that photo, with all the ship/itinerary /dates info on it becomes the cover of our photo album!

This. We like matching T-shirts on embarkation day, and for that matter as many of the excursion days as possible. Makes for nice pictures and makes it easier for us to "round up the troops." We look for unusual color shirts, so that it is easier to pick out our children as the crowds mull around. Plus, with matching shirts, no one has to ask "how many in our party?," or "Are you together?" It is self-explanatory. It mostly keeps people from cutting us apart in lines or standing together at the sail-away party etc. too.
