I've looked on this board but was unable to find anything. I will be bring my lap top with me to watch movies while on the plane and to load photos and viedos i have a few questions.
Would the fron desk be able to keep it in thier safe while i"m out and also is the front desk staffed 24? Also how big are safes and would it hold a 14 inch lap top Thanks

Most people secure it in their room or in the safe if it will fit (safe sizes vary at different resorts). Many say they lock it up in their suitcase, or secure it to the desk with a cable lock, etc.

We leave ours out and haven't had a problem, but I guess my family is risk tolerant. We have so much electronic & camera gear in our room, it couldn't all be secured, so I just choose not to worry about it.

Depends which resort. My 15" macbook pro fits in most hotel safes. You may want to call your resort and ask.

You cannot unfortunately call the resorts directly. They go to a CCC and most of the CM's do not know the info.

You can check an official thread for the resort and they will post the pic of the safe.

Also, you can lock it in your suitcase or bury it in the bottom drawer of the armoire/dresser. Mousekeeping does not have time to look through things looking for laptops. We have left video players on the table and never had an issue.

I have left my Macbook out, and never had a problem. Most of the time I try to put it in my suitcase, but sometimes am in a rush. I have a 13" but never tried to see if it will fit in the safe. I usually have our wallets, passports etc in there.

Some of the resorts have newer safes that are large enough to hold a laptop. Other resorts have the old style wall safe and a lot of laptops won't fit in those safes.

If my laptop will fit in the safe, I will put it in there. Otherwise, I bury it at the bottom of my suitcase underneath dirty clothes. But I really don't worry much about it. I've always left our portable DVD player laying out and never have had a problem.

I'm of the opinion that I don't trust the in room safes. I use the safety deposit box at the front desk, but I have never traveled with a laptop. I lock up passsports, extra money or travelers cheques. However, for convenience I don't think it would work for your laptop if you want easy access to it. I think if you lock it in your suitcase it should be fine.

I travel with two laptops, one personal and one for work. I secure them both with cable locks to a table or chair. In all my visits to Disney resorts I have never had anything go missing from my room. Last visit I accidentally left my Kindle behind  - they found it, wrapped it in bubble pack, and sent it home to me unharmed. :)

Have a great trip!

I'm admittedly lazy when it comes to using the safe and have never had an issue. However, this year, my goal is to use the in room safe. Why chance it?

Between the four of us, it is impossible to "secure" all of our electronics. We leave ours out in the room and have never had a problem.

If you want the safest possible option and the only one where the resort has liability beyond a minimal amount, you should have the front desk lock up your laptop in their safe deposit box. Even I don't do this, as it is somewhat inconvenient given that you have to actually go there and possibly wait in line to drop it off and pick it up.

The next best choice is to lock it in your room safe. Unfortunately, not all WDW room safes are large enough to accommodate a lap top so this is not always an option. I always do this if the safe is large enough.

Your next choice would be to secure your computer with a cable lock to something that can't easily be removed from the room and keep it out of sight. If the safe is not large enough, this is what I would do.

Moving down a level would be to hide the computer somewhere out of sight. I have done this in the past.

I personally would never just leave an unsecured (or even cable locked) lap top sitting out in plain sight. Most hotel room thefts are going to be crimes of opportunity perpetrated some ne'er-do-well walking by while mousekeeping has the door open, a sticky fingered mousekeeper or maintenance person, etc. and the thief is just looking for something they can grab in an instant. An expensive piece of hardware sitting out fits that bill to a "T." Of course people do it all the time and most of them never have a problem. I also lock my car even when it's in my driveway or garage, I lock my garage and I lock my house even when I'm home.

We have left laptops, Ipods and DVD players out in the room. We have also hid them amongst our clothes when my husband has been nervous. I have never had a problem with anything we have left out.

I once (stupidly) left my laptop open on my bed at the Yacht Club. Forgot that I did, left for the day and didn't come back till 5pm to rest up after being at the parks all day. When I got to my room I saw my laptop sitting on my bed in the same spot I left it. Everything else in the room was cleaned and the other bed was made up. They didn't touch the bed with the laptop on it at all! There was a message from housekeeping on the phone saying that the housekeeper indicated that your laptop was on your bed so they didn't want to touch it and if I wanted the bed made up to just call them back. That's the magic of Disney! :thumbsup2

I put mine in the luggage and use the pad lock. Done. If they dare to take our lap top, they have to break the lock or tear our luggage. It would be obvious that someone wants to steal it.

We always leave ours out or just in a backpack and have never, ever had an issue. We also have them password protected. Housekeeping is too busy working.

This is exactly what DH and I do. It has always worked for us!
