We are renting points and staying in a studio at VWL for 5 nights and AKV 4 nights. This is our first DVC stay and I need to know what to pack. Especially food-wise. We would like to eat more meals at our resort this trip (we had free dining last year. What a headache...and stomachache!). I have a little guy who will be 2 1/2. In addition to the regular items I plan on packing extra towels and some microwaveable mac & cheese (hey, it's a start). What other suggestions do you all have?

A case of water, juice boxes, toddler snacks, microwave Mac, yogurt, cereal, popcorn, frozen pizza (freezer is small) bagels/bread. Wine :) Really anything. Frozen meals, cold cuts, the list goes on.

Many studios have no freezer anymore.

Salt and pepper. Any other spices you might want to add - I often bring garlic powder as I buy bread and butter at the resort store. If you have them (and space in your luggage,) hard plastic (Tupperware/Rubbermaid) plates and bowls. Storage containers for leftovers; if they're microwaveable, even better. Bell Services will move your luggage and your groceries, so don't worry about finishing everything at your first stay. Like Laura, I would not trust that you'll have a freezer big enough, or at all, to store anything frozen. Ziploc bags, both for food and for dirty clothes when you move/go home. (I made the mistake once of buying some aluminum foil - can't use it in the microwave, so take my advice and don't bother!) If you think you might use the public laundry facilities bring some detergent from home (the machines will be free for you to use.) You won't get shampoo and soaps every day, so bring extra if you think you might need it. Each room should have a full bottle of dish washing detergent, so don't worry about that.

You might also consider a grocery service - make up your shopping list ahead of time and they'll deliver it to your first stay at VWL.

The Studio's are pretty much a normal hotel room. So anything you would pack in a hotel room is the same. The only cooking you could do is toaster and a microwave.

If you have a car you could go to the store and get something for the grills outside. Hotdogs, Hamburger, steaks etc.. I havnt used them yet but we plan to do at least one dinner a trip on the grills from here on out to save money.

Microwave bacon, tomato, lettuce, avacoade et.... for BLTs with microwave mac and cheese or tomato soup make a good lunch or dinner as well

Pack a good knife for cutting up fruit, bagels etc. there will be plastic forks knives, spoons and paper plates and bowls. Real mugs and glasses are provided. It is amazing what you can fix in a studio.

If you are organized you can make all kinds of meals in your studio. I have found that writing down how many bagels, English muffins, bowls of oatmeal, pancakes, etc. will be needed for breakfast and all the condiments that go with it helps with planning meals. I do this for lunch and dinner as well. Then build a shopping list in an excel spreadsheet.

Simple meals you can make in a microwave: soft tacos = beef or chicken (can buy already cooked frozen or in the deli); shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, tortilla chips; served with a salad. All these items can be used in another meal add scrambled eggs for breakfast meal or chips and salsa with glass of wine for an evening snack.

Chicken be served on a salad, or with pasta and sauce, etc. Once you determine your meals for your length of stay then you can build your shopping list. If you do forget an item or run out the resort stores do carry items. Google DVC grocery list this will give you an idea of what is in the resort grocery section.

These are the items that live in my suitcase for vacations (not just Disney):

One small packing cube:

1 paring knife with blade cover

1 chef knife with blade cover

1 small wooden cutting board

1 rubber spatula

1 wooden spoon

1 small wire wisk

1 pancake turner

1 set of tongs

1 wine key

1 full set of Disney picnic silverware (16 pieces)

3 magnetic bag clips

In suitcase:

1 large cutting mat (similar to a place mat)

1 electric hot pot

1 electric sandwich skillet with lid 6”

1 4 cup pyrex measuring cup (wrapped in bubble wrap) or 1 large tupperware mix n store bowl with lid

4 small plastic bowls for microwave

2 sturdy kitchen towels

2 small potholders

20 – Ziploc Quart size freezer bags

1 box of Ziploc Sandwich bags

Happy Studio Cooking!

Wow! You guys are awesome! Most of this stuff never crossed my mind and it's giving me more ideas as well! Thanks so much! We will be driving down and will need to go off property for a visit with my sister and the outlet stores so I can always get whatever I need then. These suggestions will help me make a list so I can get done quicker and back to vacation mode.

I wouldn't bother packing towels. I'd spring for the extra $6 if I needed an extra towel pack. Towels take up too much suitcase room. But if you are driving, off course you can bring them more easily.

Cereal, and other breakfast items that your child might like. You can do scrambled eggs in the microwave so bring a small dish for cooking in the MW. I always just get milk and juice and eggs at the resort store.

We usually have our snap hooks that we hang in the shower to hand up wet bathing suits.
