What do they scan for FPs, EMH, etc.?

We are 11 days away from leaving for Orlando and I just realized I’m not sure how this works exactly . We have 20 park hopper physical tickets that we won at a silent auction and I have linked them to my MDE and assigned to my family members. We’re a family of four so this will get us 5 days at the parks. We booked a Disney Springs hotel, and I’ve linked that reservation to MDE. We’re not getting magic bands. So for each day we go to the parks, we just need to bring 4 tickets to get in, correct? What are they scanning to check our FPs, dining reservations, EMH eligibility, etc? Are they scanning something on my phone? Do we need the physical tickets for anything other than getting into the parks? Or do we even need the physical tickets? Seems like something I should know already!

The hotel should give you a ticket "voucher" to show that you are eligible for EMH. You will need your physical theme park ticket and voucher in the park. You will need to show your ticket (theme park) for fast passes. You will scan the ticket, like a magic band for the fast passes, at each ride.

So, you will need to bring the physical ticket with you each day.(and voucher from hotel). Your dining reservations should be showing up on your MDE. I always carry a sheet of paper with all of our reservation numbers, restaurants and time (in case we have issues with MDE or Wi-Fi while in the parks.)

This is a bit misleading or old info above. To bring some clarity here, if you have linked physical tickets to your MDE those are now magically also digital tickets. You can either buy magic bands and link those to your account or go to a ticket window and they will issue you a card that can work just as a magic band does. Each member of the party needs one or the other and your ticket information is linked to it. You tap your band on the Mickey head, get your fingerprint scanned and you are off the to the races, the same band or card and process is used for fast passes (minus the fingerprint scan). As for EMH, if you get your Disney springs hotel information linked to your MDE again this information that you qualify will be tied to your card or band, you won't be carrying around a voucher from the hotel for EMH or your paper ticket copies.

And when did this begin? Because the DSprings hotels are not Disney Resorts, guests staying there have been given vouchers to enter EMH.

@jeanie1724 - If each family member has a plastic ticket linked to them, there is no need to stop by a Ticket Window. Each person will use one of their already linked tickets to enter the park and FP lines.

Sounds like OP has 20 one day tickets. So will they have to bring a different one each day?
If so, personally, this is a time where a Magic Band purchase may make things SOOOOOO much easier than keeping track of 20 single day tickets. Just a basic one, times 4, would still be a wise investment.

From a recent stay at Best Western, I did not need the voucher from the hotel. My magic band worked just fine for early entry, etc.

Ok, so it sounds like having my plastic tickets linked to MDE will allow us to NOT have to keep track of which tickets we've already used, and have to bring 4 unused ones each day? Maybe? Sounds like shelling out for Magic Bands may be worth it???

I would BUT since 1 ticket will work to access all the others it won't be as critical. Still, I'd either want a lanyard or a MB just to keep from having to drag a ticket out each time I need to scan in.

Absolutely worth the 15.00 per person in that case. You'll be able to use it for so many things and as mentioned you won't have to keep track of X amount of tickets. That said, you may still want to keep them on hand on your first park visit just on that off chance.

The only downside is Disney does do some tracking on those things. I remember riding It's a Small World and at the end on a screen it said "Goodbye *insert my name here*" or something to that effect . I know it's supposed to be a part of the magic but I wasn't expecting it so was a bit creeped out by it XD.

They track with the ticket too. Not long range like the Small World signs but track nonetheless.

If you happen to have old bands, the original type, they can't track anymore either. Their long range batteries are worn out.

You only need to choose 1 set of 4 tickets and use them to enter the parks and FP lines for all park days. Use a Sharpie to write names on them for ease of park entrance.

The MB alternative will be $60+ for the 4 of you and that’s only if you choose the basic MBs.

Ok, so that one set of tickets would have all of our FPs for all days, dining reservations, and EMH eligibility?

Everything is linked to your MDX account and that 1 ticket provides the link to that data for park entrance and FP lines. Nothing is “on” a MB or a ticket.

No ticket needed to enter a Dining location. Just give your name and reservation time.

EMH may need a voucher depending on which hotel you are in. Check with the front desk upon checking-in. If no voucher needed, just scan a ticket at EMH entrance.
