What do these terms mean?

We are planning to buy through a reseller - The Timeshare Store or the Timeshare broker. Are they both reputable?
Also, what does "reservation status" and "on hold status" mean? We see these terms in some of the listings.
Thanks so much!

Points in a holding account are points that were fram a reservation canceled in the last 30 days prior to the reservation. Those points can only be used for a sty in the last 60 days of your use year. Reservation points are points that were used for a stay at a non-DVC resort and the reservation was canceled. I think those can only be used for a stay at a non-DVC resort.

I thought "Holding Account" points could only be used for a trip BOOKED on 60 days' notice or less. In other words, if I want to stay June 30 using Holding Acct points, I cannot call to book until April 30. No?

Correct - only book 60 days out, only at DVC resorts.

I think holding points can be used anywhere. Reservation points can only be used at non-DVC and there are restrictions in the last 60 days of your use year.

Both "Holding Account" and "Reservation Status" points exist because an existing reseravtion was cancelled.

In the case of "Holding Account" points- the res was cancelled within 30 days of arrival. These points may only be used for a reservation within the next 60 days when you call and will expire at the end of the Use Year. They are not restricted to the last 60 days of the Use Year - except that they cannot be used for non-DVC options when booking 60 days or less from the end of the Use Year- during that period of time they can ONLY be used for DVC reservations. Prior to the last 60 days of the Use Year, they may be used for any available options from the DVC programs.

"Reservation Status" points cannot be used at DVC resorts since those points have already been committed for non-DVC use. They may be used for any of the non-DVC options- except the World Passport Collection.

Enjoy!

And the "60 day rule" does not apply to reservation points.

FWIW, if I were buying a contract with either reservation points or holding account points, I would assign them very little (if any) value when considering what to offer for the contract. That's because of the already mentioned restrictions on using them - depending on the use year and the closing date, you might not be able to get any use out of them at all.

Best wishes -

I'd agree the value is reduced but how much depends on how well they fit into your plans. If you can't use or rent them they have almost no value. If you can use them, it depends on the situation.
