The banning of political discussion on the community board. Man, these threads are boring without it. Unless folks really get into talking about whether they had pimples as teens...

Why not have a Politics board??

I've lost track of whether we're posting what we hate, or what we don't understand the hate for!

New posters who don't post about Disney first. People forget that our messages come up on google searches so a lot of people find the DIS through other topics.

Yeah, I've seen the DISboard come up on searches before and done a double-take!

I did first find it as a planning resource, but now I'm here all the time, whether I've got a trip coming up or not, so I do probably post more in general discussions than Disney-specific ones.

Why not have a Politics board??

Because the board has already shown it couldn't handle it and have things not degenerate into a clown fiesta complete with people trying to make up their own rules for threads and trying to get the mods to enforce those made up rules, tattle tailing, spamming, thinly veiled and not so thinly veiled personal attacks and not following the rules. The mods got tired of it. They're not here to baby sit. 24/7.

Wow. Ok. So they had an entirely separate politics-only board before? I must have missed that.

I would envision it as a place where people largely police themselves -- if you choose to post there, take your chances. Only policing the most egregious things like threats. But I guess that exists: Twitter.

In any case, learned my lesson on DIS re anything even remotely political. I'm done with that. I'm not even allowed to say here what was so awful about it!! Meh. Better to focus on trip planning!

I would envision it as a place where people largely police themselves -- if you choose to post there, take your chances. Only policing the most egregious things like threats. But I guess that exists: Twitter.

No, there wasn't a dedicated political forum, but this board was full of political threads. There were plenty of personal attacks. It got downright nasty at times. Politics tends to bring out the worst in people. If there were a political forum, moderating it would no doubt be a full time job. I personally wouldn't mind a political forum, but I'm very much against allowing political discussion on the CB. At least, those of us who aren't interested in political debate could ignore a political forum. If I were a board administrator or moderator, I wouldn't even consider going down that road again.

PS: It's not like there aren't political forums out there. Why don't those interested in discussion/debate just use those? There would be a lot more people there interested in the discussion.

Violent crimes were actually UP... almost 4 percent across the US
However property crimes were Down,
Almost 3 percent

New stats from FBI come out later this year.

But the LONG TERM trend in violent crime is down.

I would put any amount of money on it that emotions would spill over into other threads and boards on DIS.

That was my first thought too, I'd like to discuss things with people I already 'know'.

I have a ton of questions but wouldn't want to just go to a random board to ask them.

A former co-worker used to make a very convincing argument that EVERYTHING is political.
So I can see how buttering a roll at dinner could be political.

No they didn't. But it stands to reason that the behavior on an all politics board wouldn't be any better. Not to mention people would bring their feuds there to other boards.
