What do I need to plan ahead of time now?

We haven’t been to Disney since 2018. Everything seems to have since changed as far as planning goes. Normally, I would book my hotel, park tickets and transportation to start. Six months out I would reserve Dining and 3 months out I would reserve Fastpasses.

We are thinking of booking a trip for late August, which is sooner than I normally plan a trip. I see Disney now does Genie or Genie+ vs Fastpasses. I also see that you can purchase Genie tickets by day and ride. Is this correct? How far out do those need to be reserved and are they pretty much available or do they fill up fast?

What about dining? Still 6 months out? If so, I’d be late to reserve and expect to get reservations to popular restaurants for late August now?

Anything else I should consider?

Just when I thought I had the planning figured out, they go and change it.

Dining is 60 days for everyone now, Genie + can be purchased day of. Reccomended to be up at 6:45ish to buy genie and be ready to lock in some choices at 7am.

I would book park reservations as soon as park tickets are purchased. I would not wait until I booked ADR’s. You can always (hopefully) move them around after, but if you wait too long park reservations can close for a park/day you want. You never know when Disney is going to announce something (like guardians opening) and days suddenly are full.

The completely new thing is the need for Park Reservations. Since the reopening, Disney has added the Park Reservation system. You now must have a Park Reservation to enter a Park. Having a park ticket does not guarantee you'll be able enter the park you want. You can make Park Reservations as soon as you purchase your tickets. Park Reservations are limited and can sell out (although there no cost to make them) for certain parks and certain days. DHS and MK are the parks that most frequently reach capacity. Make those reservations as soon as you can.

Sounds stressful. It’s difficult enough to get out to the parks early but to have to set up rides. Oh well, definitely worth it to avoid long lines.
