What do I do now? I can't use my Skyauction week!

Here's the story.

We are going for two weeks (family of 5) in Nov/Dec so I won an auction at Bryan's Spanish Cove for 11/26/2005. We have another week at CPGV for 12/3/2005.

Well, my mom was going to join us for the Dec. week and then I got this great idea that my DNephew(14) should go with us but the week that works out for him is the Nov. week (school break for a couple of days). He hasn't been to WDW since he was 4!!!! I told him I think he might be scarred for life but I will try to fix that by taking him myself! lol :teeth: He isn't a thrill ride person so WDW should be just fine.

But........that means my mom has to also come with us that first week because she would be his transportation back. (My mom wants to drive) THAT means I have 7 people for a 6 person villa. So........................

I bid and won an auction for Vistana (paid the extra for the sleep 8) for that first week. SA won't let me use the BSC week for next year, can't say that isn't fair, I knew what I was doing. But that leaves me with a week I can't use..........I tried giving it to family, that didn't work out. I have some friends that would love to buy it from me but he can't take off of work (school teacher).

I only paid $270 for it and they charge $50 to transfer the name. How can I get rid of this.........should I just keep asking around to my friends?? I don't think I'm allowed to use Ebay, not that I would want to anyway........I've never sold anything on there in my life and I'm not looking to make any money off of it, I just would like what I paid for it.

Any ideas?? Is there a website somewhere for stuff like this? :confused3

ask skyauction first - if they won't let you cancel.

then I would go with ebay - hey they can't do anything to you - they punish RCI members who rent on ebay using their exchanges or get aways by taking away their membership.

you don't have a membership that is linked with that reservation.

I think you have probably found one of the best forums for dealing with your problem right here. I would imagine someone will PS you before long and take the week off your hands. Good luck!

Yeah, Pat. I tried SA. Twice. I said, "could I use the money toward another bid for next year?".......Nope. Then I asked, "could I just switch weeks and use the same place, but for sometime in May?"........Nope. I don't blame them. I have had great luck with them and it is the contract I agreed to. No hard feelings.

Ebay? Really?? I don't even know how I would go about that. That scared me a little.

ebay scares me too - I use www.redweek.com - but it costs to join and it costs even more to post an ad.

I have also used www.tug2.net - but again it cost to post an ad.

do you work?

can you post on a bulletin board at work somewhere?

Well, that would be great but I'm not expecting that. I would think people on here (being that we are consummate planners :teeth: ) would have their week planned already for November. I've had this week since Feb. and the CPGV since last September! :rotfl: I know, I know.

They can't cancel your membership BUT they can cancel your week and the person that you rent it to will arrive and will discover (too late, unfortunately) that they have no place to stay. RCI IS Sky Auctions and are always trolling eBay looking for this exact scenario which is people re-renting exhanged, Sky Auction and Last Call weeks.

Not saying you will definately get caught but just a word of caution if you are going to try to rent this week, do it a bit more discreetly than eBay.

here is the one for the dis boards

however there is no direct link from the index list to this board (that I have found)

http://www.disboards.com/cgi-bin/auction/main.pl

so I don't know if it will help you or not?

they were going to pu all the DVC rentals there - but to many posters on the DVC complainted and they didn't do it.

Thanks for the ideas. No, I'm a SAHM, so no bulletin board. Good idea though.
We had to rent out our Vistana week last year due to a family illness. Both dh & I posted on bulletin boards at work and got several inquiries. Finally rented it out (for dirt cheap because it was so last minute) to someone at dh's place of work. Vistana allowed us to change the name on the reservation no problem. I know you're a SAHM, but are you married ? Could dh post it at work ? This might just work for you.

I have no idea whether this is even possible or not, but maybe you could donate your week to the Make A Wish Foundation. I know their website is www.wish.org. I you have any trouble selling your week, you might want to consider giving them a call.

what is the bed set up at bsc?
Is there any way that 7 of you could sleep there? maybe your 3 kids in the master bed, you and dh on sofa sleeper, and mom and DN in twins in other bedroom?
maybe I am wrong for suggesting this, but do you really think they would know if you had 1 extra person?

Spicey..........thanks for that idea. I keep forgetting about the Dis Auctions. I will look into that if I feel I need to.

King in the Master and twins in the second bedroom with sleeper sofa in living room. But it's too late now, I already have the Vistana bought and paid for. I wouldn't want to go over the limit anyway.........I'm a girl that likes to obey the rules.......lol :) .....I wouldn't want to cause trouble. Besides, then we would feel squished. :teeth:

Mossman - timeshare unless you own the week and are giving up the entire week forever - are not tax deductions.

so I don't think she could even deduct what she paid if she goes the donation route.

I once won a week also on SkyAuction and then could not take the week. Although they could not cancel the reservation, they said it was transferrable. I put an ad on EBAY, I paid about $250 for it, the auction won at $300. After the close of the auction, the winner gave me their information which I gave to Skyauction. Their name was put on the reservation and they were given a certificate as proof to take with them to the hotel. It worked out fine for me. Hope this helps.

How about placing an ad in your local paper? In our area, the Shopper's Guide booklet that comes each week always has a whole column of Disney area rentals listed. Probably only $20 or so to place an ad.

well---we've sold lots of things on the bulletin boards at grocery stores. (a car, a computer, etc.)

do the stores in your part of the country have community boards? if so, type up a nice flyer w/ a picture of the resort. be sure to hightlight the inexpensive price per day! and if i were the buyer, i'd feel better seeing a quick sentence about why it's for sale priced so low!
