I need some advice on something. My boyfriend & I our planning on a trip to WDW in August. However, the only possible way we can go is to purchase the trip on a credit card. It's a last minute thing so we had no time to save $$! Anyway. We filled out the application for the Disney credit card & have been approved, we are now waiting to receive it in the mail. They said 10 business days from the time I was approved, which will be June 29. In the meantime, I called Disney & booked a vacation so I could get what I wanted & get the free dining deal. The $200 deposit is due June 23, this Thursday! But we still haven't received the credit card yet so I cannot pay this. What should I do? Should I just cancel it & then book it again? I don't know what to do. I don't want to lose out on this free dining plan!! Help!!

If I were you, I'd ask someone if I could borrow their credit card and then just give them the money before the due date.

Why dont you call the credit card co and explain to them that you are planning a trip and you'd like to use your card for the down payment as well as paying for the trip to earn your disney visa points. Ask them if they could give you your cc# so you could use it to call CRO and book your trip. Make sure you get the expiration date and the three digit verifying number on the back.

FYI. Packages need to be paid in full 45 days before arrival date. Do you plan on charging the entire vacation?

In these days of heightened concern regarding identify theft, I don't think they would give that information over the phone. One could certainly try but I would be really surprised if they got the information.

You and your boyfriend could donate plasma.

It took us 30 days to get our card. They did tell us over the phone it would take 30 days.

Are you going to have enough money after the trip to pay off the credit card before any interest builds on what you have spent? Financing a vacation by credit is poor financial planning. If you're not going to pay it off before interest builds and you pay monthly what you can afford you are telling the bank that you are willing to pay 10%-30% more for the vacation than anyone else.

I don't think the OP was asking for financial advice, just advice. :guilty:

I'm not sure what you can do. But have at it and have a good time, you only live once.

If she got the Disney Visa and purchased a package she has six months no interest and only has to make minimum payment. Not that I'm condoning booking a vacation she can't afford, just throwing that out there 'cause she's probably going to go on the trip no matter what.

Bite the bullet and send a $200 check. It will be $200 less to pay in the end and you won't have to worry if your card will arrive in time to make the deposit. Enjoy your trip!

Not all of the packages are under the 6 months no interest program. I think you need to get the park hopper tickets with the pluses for this. They bury that in the details.

If she pays the $200 deposit by check, then she won't qualify for the 0% financing. The whole thing has to be charged to your Disney Visa.

One thing you could do, if possible, is call back CRO in a few days and see if the same thing you booked is still available. Then you could cancel the old ressie and rebook with a new deposit due date.

No flame here, but I would never book a vacation that I didn't have all the money in the bank to pay for it on the day we left.

Thanks a lot for all the great advice. However, all I really wanted to know is if I could cancel my reservation & then just call back & make new one. I know what I'm doing financially, this is just a very last minute trip & we couldn't possibly come up with $1500 so fast. Anyway, thanks for the advice. :earsboy:

When I booked our honeymoon trip in 2004, we had an emergency come up a few days after booking, I called CRO and explained this to them and they were more than happy to grant us a courtesy 1 time extension of 5 or 10 days, I cannot remember, but they offer the extension.

Note to everyone whose financial houses are in perfect order - sometimes, you just gotta get to the Mouse's House, and if that means selling your first-born male child to come up with the money... you gotta do what you gotta do!

Have fun DeeDeeW80!!!
