Hello, We are leaving next week and are wondering what we will need for our daughter to check in at the airport. I am thinking a birth certificate and a photo id. Is this correct? She is three years old and looking forward meeting Mickey Mouse for the first time. Thanks for any help.

Thats what I would bring, however, we've never been questioned with our 2 yr old. If we go out of the country (cruise) we use his passport. If you take your child and your spouse is not with you, you might want a notarized letter (mainly if going out of the US). Ive read about this on cruise sites and people have not been allowed to go without a letter.

We traveled twice this past year with our 2 year old grandaughter, once with her parents and once with out. Neither time were we questioned or asked for ID. We even bought her a seat on the plane and her last name is different than ours but no problems. We carried a note from our daughter when we traveled alone but never was asked for it anywahere. (We left Seattle both trips and went to Arizona with out her parents and to Orlando with her parents)

I travel with my DS3 all the time and never once have been asked for ID. The only time is when we drive into Canada and I have a copy of his Birth certificate.

We brought our 2 year old. Didn't have any problems. They didn't ask for anything.

If you are flying domestic and have a school picture ID, then bring it along.
You will not need a birth certificate.
Most times, our teens are not even questioned, but we take the ID just in case.
Most important--have YOUR ID readily available.

Only time you may need a birth certificate is to prove a child is 2 or younger because you aren't purchasing a seat. They want to make sure you aren't trying to get away without purchasing a seat for an older child.

I have traveled with children 4-12 and never brought a birth certificate or have I been asked for any form of ID. My most recent trip was last month.

You don't need to bring a thing. The children just need to be there at check in so the agent can see them.

I had the same question as this is my girls first time flying. I called my airline just to be sure. I recommend you do the same. BTW, we are going on American and they said my kids do not need any form of ID...

We just flew Southwest w/our 2, 4 & 10 yo. Even though my DD10 has a different last name, we were not asked for ID on any of them. I brought their birth certs. just in case but never needed them.

We went on a cruise last year, we only needed birth certificates for everyone and Drivers license's for adults. No passports were needed for anyone.

SW told me to bring birth certificates for children, picture ID for adults for our flight this month.

I just called Continental airlines the other day to ask this very question and I was told our kids (2,5 and 9) would not need any form of I.D. to fly. I asked if this was true for all airlines and he said yes. Airlines at this time do not require I.D. for children under the age of 18.

My DH & I have different last names, DD is same as mine. The only time we have ever needed id for her is when we go to Canada. Flying within the US has never been a problem.

I have traveled many times with my DS (2) and never been asked for anything. However, you do need to have his/her birth certificate (just in case they do ask). It is not required that children this young have a photo i.d (at least not with traveling in the US).
