What do Canadians have that Americans don't?

How about some manners and a pleasant disposition LOL. Sorry I just couldn't help myself. I say Smarties and Coffee Crisp along with an Aero bar and some real chips yes Ketchup and Dill Pickle etc.

I'm not sure about the Goderich and the Magic Kingdom connection but I did read that Walt's father, Elias, was born in or near Goderich as Walt's grandfather, Arundel, settled in that area in the 1830's. I have never heard of Walt's connection to Canada before.

Here is a link to that article.

I am from Goderich and Walt's family definitely originated from here. This is why our town was chosen for Mickey's hometown parade in 1999, where disney came and put on a parade up Highway 8 and around 'The Square'. The Square is the center of the town, a courthouse with a surrounding park, and 8 streets spoking out.
Walt's great grandfather Arundel moved the family to Goderich Township in the 1830's, and opened a Mill on the Maitland River. The homestead and mill are long gone, but the road they existed on is still called Disney Road. Arundel's son Kepple married a local girl, Mary Richardson, from one of the area's founding families. Mary's family plot is in the retired Holmesville Cemetary. Elias was born here in 1859.Several descendants of the families are still in the area, and an uncle maintained a cottage on Lighthouse Street in Goderich into the 1960's. Walt and Lillian visited there in the 50's, and since the layout of the centre of the square is much like Cinderella Castle, there were rumours that Walt gained ideas for it, from their visit.

I will be meeting, in person, an American DISer this Fall in Disney World and I would love to bring her a basket full of Canadian goodies. The only 2 items I can think of so far would be Coffee Crisp chocolate bars and maple candies. Can you think of anything else? Thanks for all your suggestions! :goodvibes

On our July trips to visit my family in Gaspésie, Québec, I always bring back a few items that are not available here in MA. Seeing that you're from NB, how about some cretons (spiced pork paté spread). I love that on my toasts. And another item that I always bring back is a bag of 100% pure buckwheat flour. All we have here is buckwheat mixed with wheat flour. There's nothin' better than buckwheat pancakes and canadian maple syrup (although I will use Vermont maple syrup as an alternative).

We learned all this from some cast members at the Hometown parade we were there for it in 99 it was so much fun. They parked all the rigs and trailers at the Wal Mart parking lot I remember getting pics of the kids standing beside one trailer that had a huge mural of Mickey on it. Apparenlty the layout of Goderich was supposed to be the plan for Guelph and the guelph layout was supposed to be for Goderich but there was a mix up and they ended up in the wrong places.

a friend of mine had just bought a house on Huron Road (Hwy8), near highway #21, so we were fortunate enough to get roadside seats. It was a great day, and a spectacular parade. My wife had a t-shirt from it on when we went down last year, and a CM at Epcot was talking about it. Found out he was from Kincardine, and had family in Goderich. We educated a couple of other CMs about our ties to Walt Disney. My grade 6 teacher was the great-great niece of Kepple and Mary Disney, and my wife's grade school friend was 3rd or 4th cousins.

If you do a Wikipedia search on Goderich, there are some pics of the courthouse and downtown square.

How about some manners and a pleasant disposition LOL. Sorry I just couldn't help myself. I say Smarties and Coffee Crisp along with an Aero bar and some real chips yes Ketchup and Dill Pickle etc.

I was born and brought up in NB and now live in the States. We always bring back Ketchup Chips for our son as we cannot find them here - also Croton (not very healthy but really good on toast. Hope this is helpful - I miss NB.

Oh yeah because the mix is so much better

Old Dutch popcorn twist is a favorite we alway bring to the US.

Excuse me Luv's Tink, but why do you bash my suggestion re ice tea (and I didn't even mention a make)then add your suggestion re junk food that has no nutritional value what so ever...check out the package....:confused3
I have every right to add my opinion as any one else without being bashed:scared: for it. I did not pick on any type of behaviour, attitude, manners etc......just ice tea. If anything I would bring back loads of things I can't get here in Ottawa, like Dole Orange/Pineapple juice, Splenda flavoured sugar's for coffee, warmer weather and David Boreanaz :lovestruc !!!! Have a good day every one....:goodvibes
