We've previously stayed at both AKL and WL, this time we are staying at POFQ in December. We don't spend much awake time in the room(we had a pool view at AKL and don't feel like we missed out at all since we were rarely in room). I know there's no valet service but what else will we notice?

THANKS!!!!

I'm interested in this, too. Haven't stayed Deluxe yet, but one of these days . . .

Also, I've noticed that there are a couple of different levels of Deluxe in terms of pricing, :magnify: but is the service any different between the lower priced Deluxes and the higher priced ones?

Differences between Deluxes and Mods:

- All Deluxes, except for AKL, offer direct, non-bus transportation to at least one park. No mods offer this. POR/FQ offer a boat to DtD, but not to a park.

- Most Deluxe rooms offer either a patio or balcony. Depending on the resort, or room locations, the balconies can vary greatly in size and view. From what I gather, Mods do not offer balconies in their rooms. If I'm incorrect, please post, as I'm not certain of this.

- Some people might say there is a difference in theming, or the "magic" of the places. I disagree with that, and think Pop Century is probably as well themed and magical in its own way as the GF. It just depends on your tastes.

That's about it, really, as far as major differences between the 2 tiers of resorts, except for price of course ;). The balcony thing isn't that important to us, but the non-bus transportation to at least one park really spoils us for Mods.

You mention you don't spend much time in the room when you're not sleeping. If this is the case, you might well be saving a lot of money you don't need to be spending on views, etc. that you pay for at Deluxes, by staying in a Mod.

The only drawback, if you consider it a drawback, is the necessity of taking the bus to all the parks, instead of one park accessible by boat, monorail or foot.

Another difference between a deluxe and a moderate resort is that all moderate resort rooms open up to an outdoor hallway - deluxe rooms open up to an indoor hallway in the resort itself.

Not that big of a difference, unless you are really not a big fan of the heat! :sunny:

Also, most deluxe resorts don't have cafeteria-style dinning. They offer sit-down restaurants instead. Although, I do believe most deluxe resorts do offer some type of quick hamburger/hotdog type place by the pool or videogame area. Could be wrong on this one.....

Another difference here is the bed size. Value and moderate has the double beds and the deluxe has the queens. Some deluxes has the day bed such as Poly and other deluxes. We stayed at WL CY view and they didn't have the day bed. I think you have to go with a higher level room to get the day bed at WL and AKL.

One more difference for you that DF and I miss at the Mods is room service. You can get the very bad pizza delivered at PO but nothing else. We like being lazy every so often and order room service when we vacation. ;)

For us it definitely is the bed size that makes the most difference. We are all relatively small people in my family (and there are just three of us, me, DH and DS12).

I found that I couldn't get a good night's sleep in the double bed. My husband and I had one bed, and my son had the other. It was so tight for us, that I never got comfortable. I was afraid to move because I thought I would disturb my husband (or fall off the bed). I don't know how people do this who are larger.

Differences, in general:

  • Moderate rooms are smaller
  • Rooms at Deluxes have balconies; Moderates don't
  • Moderates have double, or 'Full', beds; Deluxes have Queen beds
  • Moderates have sinks 'in the room' with toilet and bathtub separate. Deluxes, in general, have the whole bathroom separate.
  • Moderate rooms open to the outside; Deluxes have inner corridors
  • Deluxes are generally closer to at least one park, with non-bus transportation to it. Moderates have only bus transportation to all parks
  • Deluxes have Room Service; Moderates have limited service (usually pizza or some limited items)
  • Moderates have a Food Court and a sit-down restaurant. Deluxes have at least two retaurants and a 'Counter Service'-type place. Food Courts at Moderates usually handle people better than the 'Counter Service' place at the Deluxes, with more, less-expensive options (this based only on my experience)
  • Moderates (with the exception of POFQ) are usually 'spread-out', with several bus stops. Deluxes have rooms in generally the same building, with all areas usually quite close

In terms of themeing, each one has its own charm, and which you like best depends on your taste.

Moderates don't have valet parking, spas, health clubs, concierge level, room service, plusher decorating, larger bathrooms on average, kids projects, high end restaurants, diverse room types, room amenities, inside room entrance, larger room sizes, park views, balconies, large beds or suites.

If you don't care about any of this stuff, a moderate will be just fine.

DisFlan

I think Coronado Springs is the exception for the moderates in that it does have a gym. I'm pretty sure I worked out there a few years back.

Pools at the deluxes are better themed and have slides. Moderate pools have no slides and are not nearly as nice.

All the moderate resorts have slides... I know because I went down the slide at POFQ!! It was sooo fun!! And POFQ's pool is very well themed!! I find POFQ and Poly and WL all well themed... It is just different themed.

The value resorts do not have slides.

As far as I know, the deluxe resorts do have cafeteria style dining. I've stayed at AKL, WL and Poly and they all had counter service. Usually the deluxe resorts have a counter service and at least one sit down restaurant. Some even have 2 ( like AKL and Poly).
The double beds would be an issue for me and dh. Otherwise, I'd stay at POFQ.

CSR does have a health club and a hot tub. It also has a great pool with a slide. I think all the moderates have slides.

For me, the most important differences are the transportation (for the monorail resorts), the inside entrance to the room, and the room service.

I thought the exterior walkway at POR was very loud but that was before I had children so maybe I'm more tolerant now (or able to sleep through more...).

POFQ probably has the least number of amenitites as far as mods go as well.... no quiet pools, no sit-down restaurant... I would go with CSR if you are used to a deluxe. CSR has an even better pool slide than both AKL and WL. The sit-down rest. serves BLD and there is a new internal shuttle service. The resort only has four bus stops and does not share with another resort. The hot tub is HUGE and there is a quiet pool in each themed area.
