A fun little game - or perhaps sad... What did you want to be when you grew up? As an added bonus, what are you doing now and how close does it match your childhood intentions?

I wanted to be an astronaut when I was young and intended to become the first human on Mars. :bounce: But since I have poor eyesight and wear contacts, that went out the window as I got older.

Now I work for a major insurance company in the administrative side of things. Not very close at all! :guilty:

A police officer. But my father had been one, and he wouldn't let me. He said I'd be encountering dangerous people.

Of course, I am a nurse in an inner-city hospital, so I encounter the same people, but am not armed!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:

A dolphin trainer.
Now I work for my family's business, but I have trained my husband and daughter pretty good. :teeth:

I wanted to be a lawyer...then I found out about the bar exam and I thought "HMPH! I don't want to do anything that requires I take a test first!"

So I became an engineer...and you know what? I had to take TWO tests to become one...that's karma!! :rotfl:

When I was a kid -- and loved watching "Gunsmoke" -- I wanted to move to the west and be a sheriff. As I got older, I wanted to be a writer. Now, I'm a sales specialist for a big-box retailer. Pretty far removed from "when I was a kid".

As a child I wanted to be a veterinarian, then as a teen a nurse, but I am a physical therapist. I just love the medical field. :)

I wanted to be a lawyer as well... and then I wanted to be a nurse... I have been working in telecommunications the past 10 yrs. traveling all over the U.S. but I am planning on cutting way back and starting nursing school soon :)!!! better late than never!

I wanted to be a ballerina. Then I wanted to be a judge.

Now I write database logic, but I'm not sad about how things turned out. :)

I wanted to be a sailor, and actually was for a couple of years (merchant marine), then got married, had family, and it was time to "come ashore".

I also wanted to be an archeologist, but that was just cause Indiana Jones was the BEST!

I wanted to be a flight attendant, and I actually was for about a year. I enjoyed all the free travel and I did have some pretty fun layovers. :cool1:

But, I knew that pouring Cokes for the rest of my life was not going to be fulfulling, so I went into Human Resources and then Teaching. :teacher:

I wanted to be center fielder for the Dodgers.

I came {} that close to that -- well, no, not really. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I wanted to be a teacher, then a lawyer, then in high school i decided on business. I have a degree in Business and when I am not on the DIS ;) I work in Transporation dealing with trucks and railroads. I NEVER even thought I would end up in the Transportation field.

I wanted to be a lawyer. Now I am one. It stinks, I hate it. :guilty:

After less than 4 years, I'm so over it. But, it's a pretty good fall back career, I guess. :confused3

I've wanted to be an architect since I was about 4 or 5. Lincoln Logs & LEGOs were introduced at an early age...

I had some short little flirts with other career options though. For a while in high school, I thought I wanted to go into ROTC and train to be a combat medic. I'm relieved I didn't choose that route, with happenings as they are in the world I'm pretty sure I know where I'd be right now. Plus, I tend to faint at the sight of blood (I'm better know with 'gross stuff' that I have kids), so THAT probably was not a good career option for me.

I also wanted to be a go-kart racer when I was 9 or 10, too. That lasted for about a week, until my dad put me behind the wheel and we quickly realized I was a spaz behind the wheel...

I wanted to be an artist when I was real little, then realized I had no talent. "I changed my mind and wanted to be a teacher when I was about 12 and that's what I'm doing.

When I was in jr high I wanted to be a lawyer. Then I changed my mind in High School and wanted to be a CPA for the FBI! After being out of school for 12 years I'm finially going to college wanting to get an AA in Radiologic Technology. In fact I'm going to the college today to sign up for classes!!!

I wanted to be a dolphin trainer and then I did it! :teeth:

Then I gave it all up to marry a canadian and then became a mom. I do miss it sometimes terribly but I'm quite happy where my life is at this time. I'm just happy I had the opportunity to live my dream. Not many people get to do that! :teeth:

I wanted to be a singing star. I worked at it for 5 years performing in bars and clubs. Went to Nashville a couple of times the last time I was offered a contract. I got a taste of what it would be like to be famous from the people who saw me perform. I got to thinking about all the time I was spending away from my new husband and my baby dd, the fact that I wouldn't be able to enjoy going anywhere for people wanting autographs and pictures. I turned down the contract and came back home. I still sing in church and local functions but I left fame behind for my family and for privacy sake.

I've been running my own business for the last 7 years. I'm not rich or famous but I am very happy.

I always wanted to be a mom, and I am, so that worked out well!

I had two career goals: Veterinarian first, then switched to teacher at about age 6.

I am a teacher. I had intended to teach no younger than 3rd, even in college. But because of the hiring freeze in Oklahoma when I graduated, I worked in the post office in OKC at night and subbed childcare in the federal building (yes, THAT one) in the afternoons. I then found a job in an Even Start program downtown until 1:00, and still subbed in the other daycare. So, when the hiring freeze didn't lift, I applied to Texas, and based on those early childhood experiences, I was hired for Pre-Kindergarten. After 9 years, my principal asked me to go to 2nd. I now don't want to teach above 3rd.

From the age of 7 I wanted to be a veterinarian. I volunteered at an animal hospital for 3 years, worked as a vet tech for 5 years, and did 2 years majoring in prevet at college.

Then I changed my mind. Now I have a degree in English, a paralegal certificate and work in the legal field. I do enjoy it - although I sometimes think about going back to school to become a librarian.
