In June we stayed in a wonderful 3BR condo with wonderful service from the owners. Premium location, first floor in the building next to the pool - just over $1000 for 8 nights. Not the cheapest but it was worth every penny.
Four our upcoming Spring Break trip, we also looked for a rental with great service and upgraded furnishings. We rented a 6 br home for $2000 for 8 nights. Haven't been yet but have high hopes.
We've gotten much better "deals" in the past but I decided you get what you pay for. We've paid less for lumpy mattresses, dirty carpet, broken furniture and furnishings.
Now I ask lots of questions from the owners before we go to gauge their responsiveness as much as to gather information. You can tell which owners really take pride in their properties, and while on one hand I love to save a few bucks, on the other, I guess I don't mind paying a bit more for a magical vacation.
