What did you pack that you wish you hadn't?

I know you didn't ask me specifically, but since I am a major Crocs wearer, I thought I'd chime in. I have REALLY bad feet. I was told by my doctor that if I hadn't come to him when I did, I would've been disabled. That being said, my first trip I was in excruciating pain. Our 2011 trip I was better prepared. I had just had another recurrence of my feet issues, and this time it had gone into my ankle. I bought TONS of crocs b/c it was 2 months before our trip, and I was nervous. I favor the Malindi. However, once we were at Disney, I found my favorites were the Crocs Capris. I wore them a lot. I bought them as a last minute whim on the advice of other Disers and honestly thought I would hate them for Disney. Not the case! I love the classic beach crocs, but they are uggo, and I didn't like them for Disney walking b/c they weren't squishy enough. I am actually wearing my Capris right now, and can't wait to order more for 2012!!!

Thanks, I'll check out the Capris!

Sneakers: Every year I throw sneakers in the car because I don't want to waste room in my suitcase and every year as we empty out the car once we get to the hotel, the sneakers lay forgotten. I have never worn them but for some reason I keep packing them.

More than one pair of shorts: I only wear the shorts over my bathing suit bottoms to walk down to the pool or around the resort. At the parks I wear skirts, capris or (if chilly or at night) jeans.

Overpacking my "car bag": We live in South Jersey and even though the drive is long, it's not THAT long. I tend to pack every book, magazine, travel game, handheld device found in my house. :rolleyes1 Nine times out of ten, if I am not the one driving, I am just curled up with my blanket and pillow enjoying the scenery.

I always pack a variety of toiletries/medicines that we never end up using

I know I need a break from the DIS boards when I find myself thinking things like, "hmm, we are driving so we can pack the toaster oven, an extra tv, all kinds of food..."

I suggest these things to my husband and he snaps me back to reality by reminding me that I HATE cooking in our hotel room, and we're not going to be watching much tv anyhow, etc.

"Sorry! I've been reading too many DIS tips on what to pack!" I say.

Thanks, I'll check out the Capris!

No problem! Hope they work out! Everyone has to find their own style of Crocs that works best for them. I just found an entire thread on here about this particular style, so I tried a pair and realized I already had a pair I had worn out a couple years ago! I love them!

Better safe than sorry! And by sorry I mean: having to rush around looking for Tylenol at WDW b/c your kid has a fever, only to find that they only carry Advil, and it's a million dollars. Fun day for me...especially since I couldn't carry the Advil back on the plane with me to travel home. I wanted to drink it myself to protect my investment!

My mom does that on her trips. As in 3 weeks long trips with a single carryon bag! She celebrated her 65th birthday on the Great Wall of China, her 70th climbing Manchu Pichu, her 75th on an African Photo Safari, and her 80th with a cruise to Antartica! (Although I think she took a little more on her Antartic cruise as she didn't have to carry her own bag all the time.)

Her 60th she celbrated by getting a college degree. She always says she never quit, she just took a 40 year maternity leave. :rotfl:

She has a couple of outfits of light weight wash and wear that she washes out by hand every night and hangs up so they are dry in the morning to put back on again.

I am not quite that frugal in my packing, but I'm working on it.

OT-but your Mom is awesome!!! My mother passed away when she was only 46 so she missed out on so much. I love to hear stories about people who are living and enjoying their lives to the fullest. :)

the Downy wrinkle spray. heard it really works well. still don't know. It leaked in the box I had it in, the box was soaked, and everything else in it! (a very nice mousekeeper found me another box!)

ps. does anyone know if it works?;)

Yes, it does work well. I don't put any of my work clothes in the dryer and I DO NOT IRON!! I spray it on my wet clothes and hang them up and don't have any issues with wrinkles. I think it works best on dress slacks. Of course, you can also use it on dry clothes.

Just a tip...you can make something similar yourself by diluting liquid faric softener with water and putting in a spritz/spray bottle. It's also just a nice refresher for clothes.

I brought a new, inexpensive shoe organizer this time, hoping my friend and her granddaughter would use the pockets to store toiletries. They didn't bother, and left piles of stuff on the counter every day. :( But MY side of the counter was clean & tidy, LOL!
I brought a smaller pocket organizer for myself & hung it on a clothes hanger--worked great. I also brought a rain poncho along, and failed to take it with me to the parks. Again. So I may be leaving it home next time.

One thing I loved that we brought:

1. dollar store picnic table cover. We put it on the ground asn sat on it while we waited for the parade. In Dec. it is nice not to sit on the cold ground. We threw it away when we left. It iwas small and took up no space in our bag.

Great idea!!!

Very funny! Not that I think that your suitcase smelling like a man is funny, but the way you worded it made me lmao. Thanks for the smiles.

P.S. We have all been there...whether it is errant man's aftershave, a punctured shampoo bottle, melted crayons in the car....oh the many pleasures of vacation!

:rotfl:

I second an umbrella. Have lugged it around on two separate occasions, and never used it once. I bought $4 ponchos at Wal-Mart, plan on leaving them behind if they are used, and will call it a day.

I aim to please! I only had one other mess whilst travelling. I once flew to Tennessee with a bag I checked. Since I checked the bag I was able to bring full size toiletries. I (like a dummy) chose to bring a large aerosol can of Herbal Essences hairspray. While it was not in my care, the lid popped off and every ounce was sprayed into my bag. Luckily I had at least thought to put it in a ziploc just in case. That would've been a bad day had I not used that bag! It probably is a little funny that my suitcase smells like a man b/c I paid extra to buy a really cute flowered suitcase, and now it smells like a dude uses it. It makes for some sweet visuals.
