What did you pack that was just a waste?

Our last trip there, we were in a one bedroom with a washer/dryer so that drastically cut down on the amount to be packed. I was actually pleasantly surprised to find that everything I packed was actually used and needed!

I just wished I would have remembered hand soap...those darn little Mickey soap bars just don't cut it.

I'm working on packing at the moment.

I took my packing list from last year (for the same time of year), and FORCED myself to cut out at least one of each: t-shirts, long sleeved shirts, fleece, socks, undies, etc.

I did the same with DS' list.

Instead, I'm packing two extra loads of laundry detergent.

My mom hasn't learned yet. She brings minimal clothes, which is great, but she insists on bringing her whole pantry...uh, yeah...they have restaurants at Disney, right?

She also thinks my DS (5) needs to have every electrical entertainment device known to man for the flight. LOL, he'll probably sleep the whole way!

Good luck to all us overpackers!!

:teeth:

snacks, disposable cameras (we took our digital and disposable just in case), water, towels, pants

Too many clothes. We ended up washing and re-wearing and didn't touch a bunch of what we brought  .

99% of my clothes! No, make that 98% as I did wear one of my sweatshirts at night.

1.- Too many clothes. You can wash at the resorts, and with a family of 5, save a suitcase or two.
2.- Toys for flight.
3.- Snacks, drinks, etc. Easier(and ultimatly cheaper)to buy when needed.
4.- Appliances. Hairdryers, coffee makers, curling irons. Provided.

I have never seen a hotel provide a curling iron. (You probably wouldn't want to use it if they did - since it comes in contact directly with your hair!)

bumping....we leave on Sat. for 8 days at POP!!
I'm curious for anyone else's input.

(We've never been in Jan. before....we go each year in May).
I'm wondering if we need our heavy winter coats or just our light fleece Land's End jackets.

We were there the first week of Jan and we did have to use our haevy winter coats. We were so glad that we had them when we left home. We are from NC so it was cold when we left out. We only had to use them one night but we were glad that we had them.

A set of hair products to make my hair curl, a set of hair products and appliances to make my hair straight, another set of hair products for club nite (which, because of exhaustion we have yet to do). I end up with a ponytail every single day!

We packed snacks and we were on the dining plan. We were so stuffed by all the food on the plan that we never even opened the boxes of crackers, cookies, etc...

Two years ago it was my first time going to Disney with a digital camera and I didn't trust it enough yet, so I also brought my 35mm camera. I carried both cameras around every day and it just wasn't worth it.

I think I've seen this, but I will add that you need to bring extra batteries. I had rechargables and the charger, but you can't recharge your batteries in the middle of a park, now can you? I needed an extra set of batteries at all times just in case.

"Same thing for me too many clothes. I don't know why I think I'm going to wear them all. Do pack advil, allergy relief and rolaids just in case!"

I agree about Rolaids, nothing is worse then waking up in the middle of the night with heartburn and not having any antacid.

On previous trips, we packed enough clothes for 1/2 the days of our stay. We always tried to have a "pool day" in the middle of the vacation, and do a few loads of laundry. With a family of 5, it really saved on the luggage room. If you figure even one outfit per day for 5 people...for an 8-day vacation, that's 40 outfits!! :earseek: That doesn't even include jammies, swimsuits, or shoes!

We are now DVC members who will be staying in a 2-br for the first time ever and will have washer/dryer right in the suite. We still will only bring enough clothes for 1/2 the trip, but this time I can throw a load of clothing in anytime during the week.

Many have said that various medicines and first aid supplies were a "waste" because they didn't use them. Well, you have no way of knowing what you'll need until the situation arises. I always pack various over-the-counter meds, and usually end up using some of it. Just get the pills in blister packs, take them out of the box, (if the directions aren't on the blister pack, cut out the directions from the box and pack it), put all in an ziploc bag. I've never filled up more than one ziploc bag. Fortunately, our kids are past the liquid med age and can take pills. I also pack a basc first aid kit, there again in a ziploc bag--bandaids, peroxide wipes, antibiotic cream, tweezers, needles and matches (for splinters), liquid bandaid--that stuff you just paint on. Great for small cuts if you want to go swimming. That's really about it. Yes, you can always buy it when you get there, but the logistics are akward. What if you're staying onsite without a rent car? Much easier to have it in your luggage than have to get a taxi offsite for bandaids, etc. :lmao:

I'm the queen of overpacking :teeth: Last August I packed 2 outfits for each day plus 2 pair of pants. More than half wasn't used because we did laudry one day. We used one spray mist fan & water bottle that we shared instead of lugging 3 of each.

For all you that said you do laundry halfway thru the week, do you lug your detergent along? Powdered?

Or do you buy what they have there? Do they have Cheer or Tide or something similar? Do they have dryer sheets also?

I'm thinking I'd rather just buy detergent & dryer sheets there at the laundry facilities. (CBR)

Pack and Play. Most hotels anf resorts offer these as "baby beds". Just bring the sheets and buy some disenfecting wipes when you make the trip to the store.
