What Did You Do To Save Money This Week? 2/1-2/7

Okay last week I didn;t buy the fire pit at 50 percent off today I did buy it at 75 percent off:goodvibes

Umm.....air dried the towels most of the way in the laundry tonight.

I know - not really impressive!!!

Did buy one of those green 'bag' soup mixes from WM for 3.97, can of tomato sauce .60(?) and a bag of frozen mixed veggies for $1.97. This made a big enough, thick enough batch of veggie soup for 3 nights. Add a loaf of french bread for $1.50 and it turned into a pretty cheap set-up. I think next time I will add some fried hamburger & add a bit more water & tomato sauce for more of a veggie beef style.

Nothing exciting today but every little bit helps:-

  1. We all brown bagged our lunch today thanks to our planned leftovers
  2. Drank water today - no sodas!
  3. Cooked dinner from scratch with planned leftovers for tomorrow

No earth shattering frugal achievements today! Hopefully, I'll be able to stay frugal over the weekend (always a challenge)

I went to Costco to get my rebate for my contact lenses sent in instead of being lazy and letting it slide because of a computer error. That's about $60.

I got a refund from the hospital on my son's tonsilectomy. Woohoo! That's nothing I did but it's still $$.

Instead of ordering glasses for my DD at Costco, I am ordering her some from Zenni Optical online and saving about $80.

This week:

I used leftover roast to cook a new meal one night and leftover pork chops for a new meal another night.

I hung some of our clothes to dry on a drying rack in the house, as much to add moisture to the air as to save money.

DH changed the spark plugs in his truck himself and I bought a new battery for it so hopefully we can keep it around for awhile longer. It has over 200,000 miles on it so I thought maybe it was on it's last legs, but $135 later it's running well.

I guess I can post on here again when DH actually gets around to taking the old battery in to Walmart to recycle and gets $9 back, but it's hard to tell when that will be :rotfl2:.

i cooked frozen pizza tonight( as i forgot to take something out to unthaw) so never ate out and there is leftovers for teh 3 kids for their lunches( they ran out of lunch meat) so don't have to go buy lunch meat.

Yet another day of avoiding stores. Since the beginning of the year, we have not had any fast food and only went out to eat once (was our "reward" for doing so well regarding food), and we also have been very, very careful to make sure we don't waste food and not throw leftovers away. A few days ago, we had ravioli, but the next two nights we had the leftovers as our side dishes - that's a big deal for us, we used to be so wasteful! Also, because we have been watchful with our food, a lot of the times we end up having leftovers and I have to bump our "scheduled" meal for another night...which means our groceries end up lasting longer :) I'm liking this new way of life!

Went and got deli sandwich fixins and will make some of the tomato soup I got for 3 cents/can to go with them rather than going out to Panera for lunch today.

Will enjoy the comedian, Paula Pounstone's show tonight for free in exchange for ushering.

Yesterday I went to CVS to get the deals. I bought 4 things of Dove's Mens body wash and 2 tubes of Colgate. Factoring in the ECBs that I earned and the coupons I used, they paid me $5.25 to take $28 worth of stuff off their shelves.

Then I went to the grocery store while my DS was at Tae Kwon Do. Got a dozen free eggs and a free box of dog treats. Since I already have 5.5 dozen eggs in my fridge (BJs trip last week), I gave the eggs to one of the other parents at TKD. I knew that I wouldn't use them, no point in letting them go to waste.

But most importantly, yesterday I took the first of 2 tests for a professional certification I'm working on. It has a 50/50 pass fail ratio for first timers, so it's not an easy test. I spent 3-4 months studying and yesterday I passed on the first attempt!!! That saves me $190 from having to take the test again! Now, once I pass the next test and get the certification I should be able to earn about 30% more than I did without the certification.

So far today I am staying home. One of my kids had a tonsillectomy yesterday so he's not bowling today saving me $8 and gas money to drive there because MIL picked up DD to take her to bowling, but I think it's evened out with what I spent buying Gatorade, popsicles and jello, lol.

Well I volunteered to work an extra day this week d/t another employee is off from surgery. It's the only time I get to work extra -when someone takes off/calls off. I save that money for flight tickets or extras.
I almost always take my lunch to work. My co workers pick up the free frosties from Wendy's for my kids (they all have grown kids-I give them my free card).
I used the jewel coupon for save 3 off $30 and other coupons my bill was $32.00 and it said I saved $26ish.
DH had monday off, so he got the kids after school so no sitter fee that day.
My mom went to the dollar store this week (1 hr round trip for us) so I asked her to grab valentines for the kids for school. Kmart wanted $4 a box!
I also borrowed her baby sized muffin pans to bake a cheaper treat for DS for school Monday his bday is 15th (he never gets a party due to valentine party and then no school for his birthday) so I send it in early/late so he gets his day.
Friday I asked someone at work if they can still get free tickets for us employees for the field museum, they are looking into it.
Sunday we are going to go bowling before noon so it .99 cents a game for in honor of DS birthday month.
DH gave me a booklet and said you can pick either one higher price item or two cheaper price items from this book for free I don't want to do it and you can have the items. So I'm looking at audiovox camcorders for the kids for Christmas next year.
Thursday we all ate different left overs. And from Wednesday nite supper I made extra for my late night supper on Friday.
Next weekend going to Great Wolf Lodge for Sunday nite- it was $129 with a farm bureau discount (if you paid $30 extra you could add a buffet breakfast for all of us). To add Saturday nite the price goes to $639 and no breakfast and just can't get myself to say yes for the extra night.

I used a coupon last night at H&R block for our taxes saved 20 on that and we are getting a nice return this year more than last year.

We sent 2 of our cable boxes back to our cable company because we never watch tv on the tvs they were attached to- that saves us $14 per month. We also tried to reduce the number of channels we have but they offered us $25 a month for six months not to.

switched our homeowner's insurance and saved $200/year
switched our car insurance and saved $40/month

since hubby & I are snowed in, we're saving money on gas, and food. I was going to go to the market this weekend and get food, but there's too much snow (we have the essentials like milk, bread, eggs, cereal, etc.) so instead we're going to make all the stuff that we already have food wise last longer, thus saving us money!

We're having the frozen lasagna for dinner tonight that we got for free at the market for Thanksgiving (instead of the turkey) yum!

We went to the open house for the kids' new school this morning. They had free popcorn and soda, a bounce house, face painting, balloon animals, crafts, etc. They had a great time and we got our weekend entertainment for free. My daughter decided she is very excited to go to school there next year, mostly because of the bounce house, so we had to burst her bubble and tell her that none of those things will be there every day!

I also stopped by Babies R Us and used my $5 free gift card from Facebook to get a package of take and toss cups for our vacation next week. 7 free cups - yay! Thanks to whoever posted this earlier in the week.

That's awesome. Congratulations! :woohoo:

All week I have been stocking up on diapers at Toys R Us. They had the big ole boxes of diapers 2 for $35 and they had a coupon for $2 off wipes. So we bought 6 boxes of diapers and one box of wipes. I have enough diapers to (potentially) last until July for $105!!! I worked out the cost per diaper and I paid 9.5 cents per diaper. :rotfl:

:cool1: I got $15 worth of rebate checks back from Fred Meyers from their reward program, and they also sent $2 off any meat purchase and $2 off any bread purchase, which we also used! We also had a coupon for a free Stacy's pita chips, so we saved over $20! Yippee, I love this thread...I'm going to continue looking for bargains! :woohoo:
