It's 18th november and whilst it is mickey mouse's birthday it is also CIN, where everyone is being charitable. I was wondering what everyone in the UK and who is on the DIS boards is doing for CIN!

In our college, we have a "slave auction" in which everyone dressed in costumes and were sold to the younger years (as the school and college are inter-mixed). I went in as Ozzy Osbourne for the day and I went into a group of four and we were sold for 37 pounds! (It was a nightmare, They made me carry all their bags up the stairs and other menial tasks! But C'est la vie)

Anyway, what did everyone else do for CIN?

Also for anyone who cares here is the scheldue of events for CIN!

Appeal night TV
Plan a night in on Friday 18 November with your favourite celebrities for company, watching this year's spectacular Appeal night extravaganza, from 7pm on BBC One.

7pm to 7.30pm
Terry Wogan is joined by Natasha Kaplinsky and Fearne Cotton for a night of fun and fundraising. Liberty X kick things off with the official BBC Children in Need single, Status Quo jet into RAF Brize Norton, the venue for one of two huge fundraising concerts, and Candice from Coronation Street sings a soul classic live in the studio.

7.30pm to 8pm
The boys from Casualty raise the temperature with their own musical surprise, and Westlife perform from Belfast.

8pm to 8.30pm
Bruce Forsyth goes Strictly Tap Dancing, Girls Aloud join the party at RAF Brize Norton and Madonna is live in the studio.

8.30pm to 9pm
EastEnders jailbird Sam Mitchell escapes Walford to perform a classic track, and the cast of Emmerdale don glad rags for High Society in the Woolpack.

9pm to 9.30pm
Billie Piper and David Tennant star in a special Doctor Who scene written exclusively for Children in Need. Plus live music from Sugababes in Wrexham, Wales and KT Tunstall in Glasgow.

9.30pm to 10pm
Catherine Tate gets into a bit of 'bovver' in Albert Square, and Rod Stewart performs a favourite from his American songbook.

10pm to 10.35pm
News. During the news, you can watch live online interviews with your favourite celebrities from tonight's programme, including Liberty X and many more.

10.35pm to 11pm
Terry Wogan, Natasha Kaplinsky and Fearne Cotton are back, introducing comedy surprises from Dead Ringers and live music from the Corrs and Katie Melua, also with fundraising reports from around the UK.

Katie Melua will be chatting online during the evening. Get your questions ready to send in to us. More details, nearer the time.

11pm to 11.30pm
The legendary BBC Newsreaders make headlines with their version of a rock anthem, and there's music from Craig David and Texas.

11.30pm to 12am
Put faces to names as the cast of Ambridge perform a special mini-episode of the Archers live in the studio, plus more music from Madonna and Jamie Cullum.

12am to 1am
Emmerdale favourite Amy Nuttall performs music from My Fair Lady.

1am to 2.05am
Welsh classical sensation Katherine Jenkins sings live in the studio, and the stars of London's West End drop in to perform exclusively for BBC Children in Need. And, as the grand total for the night is announced, the fab four - G4 - round off the 2005 fundraising spectacular.

G4 and Katherine Jenkins will be chatting online during the evening. Get your questions ready to send in to us. More details, nearer the time.

Thanks for this, so nice to know when to get away from the PC, thanks

We auctioned a HUGE teddy bear where I work. I wasn't there yesterday, so I don't know yet how much we raised.

The bear used to belong to my DDs, and we bought it (second-hand) at a charity auction when they were small, so it's been well-loved in its lifetime. As DDs are now 16 and 21, I managed to persuade them that someone else would love to give him a home ;) Quite a few people who bought the raffle tickets said "but please don't let me win - I haven't got room for a bear that big!"

I'm really sorry but I don't like Children in Need. I do give to many charities, including sponsoring many children in Africa for the past 26 years, but CIN just annoys me.

We all commented in the TJS house that we thought that the TV programme was very flat....tired....lacking star quality. I mean, Madonna twice to plug her new wares and Liberty X!!!!

Maybe it got better after 10.30 when I'd already gone to bed? ::MickeyMo

DS' nursery had a pyjama party and they all paid £1 to wear their jammies. DH' work made and sold Pudsey Bear cookies - they were yummy :teeth:

Any NI viewers may have seen DS briefly as they showed Pudsey Bear's visit to Aldergrove (where we live) and DS' nursery right at the beginning of the show (but I think it was local TV only). DS was really excited about meeting Pudsey but then cried when he saw him :rotfl: I don't think he liked the fact that he didn't speak! The strangest thing about watching his visit on the telly was when I saw the nurse who did my last smear test giving Pudsey an injection - surreal :rotfl2:

I think Aldergrove raised over £4000 in total :)

Why does it annoy you Gill?

I find it just so OTT. I really dislike the idea of being coerced into giving. We give a LOT to charity over the year, though I realise not everyone does, or indeed can.

I thought CIN night was boring with a capital B! Most of the time it was just singers and the only good parts were only a couple of minutes long (I thought the Dr who special was so short! But Catherine Tate's bit was funny, and I don't even watch eastenders!)

It does my heart good that they do make a lot for children who need help, but there is a lot of talk in the tabloids that the money goes to the wrong people, or that it should be the state's worries etc. I also feel happy that I helped by being a child's slave for the day (and my aching shoulder just makes me feel prouder!)

I do partially agree with Gilld as charities do exaggerate a lot (for example, a page in my economics book said that a charity said "This woman makes barely enough to keep her children alive" so my economics teacher replied "If that's the case, why aren't they dead?") but ANY charity is deserving of money (except maybe "wobbly parrot rescue" whatever the ____ they do).

Can't wait to Comic relief though, that is ALWAYS funny and should be worth watching.

My kiddies went into school in non uniform :) and we donated a couple of pound each for them to do it.. I watch a bit of CIN on telly but it bored me sensless so I went to bed..

Do you know FizzyPop, that was just what I wanted to say, but daren't for fear of being shot down.

J's Playgroup did their bit for CIN todat and raised c.£60 in teas and coffees, but I do wonder how long the Beeb think this can run in its current format :confused3

It all seemed a bit 'flat' in general, not just the tv bits (which I didnt see but have ready prev comments).

Usually when I am walking to work through Leeds it costs me a fiver to get by all the people dressed up with buckets!

We didnt have anybody paying in over the counter at the bank where I work.

We went to Frankie & Bennys for tea and bought a raffle ticket for £1 which could have won us our meal for free. but didnt.

That's a fantastic total. Don't watch Children in Need, so I can't compare from last year.

Funnily enough I thought that it was just me that feels like it has become less about ordinary people, and more a glorified pop concert, but presumably that is what many people like, because the amount raised at the end of the programme was more than ever.
Having said that I did my usual all day dancing session with all the 400+ pupils in the school, and raised £300 with more to come. I danced for 5 hours to current chart music not bad for an oldie!!!
