Inspired by the "what would you do..." thread...

We commando planners can fall into ruts, so I'm curious to know what new and different things did you try on your last trip?

It could be an attraction, restaurant, resort or recreation...even a way to approach a park. Tell us what you've tried!

PS. Mine was MNSSHP. Highly recommended. What a blast!

My DD and I left DH & DS at home, that's what we did! :smooth:
Actually, they couldn't make it so we just went anyway. They are commando vacationers! DD and I just wandered, ate, explored and had a great time. At night we would decide which park to go to the next day. That was the extent of our planning. It was the best trip ever. BUT....the crowds were low, we may have done things differently had they not been.

Spent a lot more time taking in the atmosphere rather than running from ride to ride. :earboy2:

We also rented surrey bikes at the Boardwalk and we had so much fun riding them around! :moped:

well most of our lkast trip was different
1st we stayed onsite (CS and ASMu)
we travelled by bus instead of car
we went to eat at animal kingdom lodge
we DIDN'T do TL this time
we done philarmagic
we only went BB once because it was in December
i think thats it

Rented a van rather than using Disney transportation. Had my mother, my aunt and a friend with me. Both my mother and aunt had scooters. My aunt was too nervous about taking the scooter on and off the bus. My friend doesn't like crowded public transportation. Too much skin to skin contact with strangers for her.

Well, since it was our first trip with our then 6 month old, we did a lot of things differently! We had already taken our 5 yo several times before. Last time we didn't go, go, go as we usually do! We did everything at a very lesiurely pace. Also for the first time ever, we skipped a park! :earseek: We decided to take an extra day at the BWV pool, skip AK and do MK again on our original AK day! I was kind of sad to skip it, but we'll be back in October!

We did character meals for the first time-Crystal Palace breakfast and CRT breakfast. We are doing CP again in May, it was a blast! :)

We stayed at AKL for the first time, and probably won't stay there again. We agree that for us, it's a great resort to visit, but we don't need to stay there again.

We did the DVC open house...and we're joining! :teeth:

We went straight to fantasy land when mk opened. The big throng went to tomorrow land, which is what we usually do. All the people going to fantasy land had small ones in tow, so we were the first ones on peter pan, walked onto snow white, winnie the pooh, and arrived at philharmagic just in time to be seated. In 45 minutes we had fantasy land done and walked over to jungle cruise which had just opened and got right on that. It felt great.

and then left the MK park, took the Boardwalk bus and had lunch and stolled the Boardwalk! We went back to MK for our fast pass, and got another one! It was a great way for us to handle the crowd. (This was last Saturday 3/12)

We ate in Japan and tried Tempura
We caught the Living Statue act and watched the entire thing.
We went through the living seas for the first time in 4 trips.
I walked 13.1 miles in 3 hours and 15 minutes!!!

We finally ate at CRT for a late dinner instead of lunch. Also, since we had more days, we could take our time and repeat some stuff. I also didn't stay at MK for Wishes every night like I did last summer. Last week we saw every night show finally!

went to AK on our first day. It seemed strange not going to MK first, but there is nothing like seeing your 60-something parents get soaked on Kali River Rapids when they have no idea what is coming. :rotfl: :rotfl:

As for restaurants: first time for...

Whispering Canyon... ketchup anyone?
Teppanyaki... my kids loved their "chicken nuggets"
Garden Grill...Thanksgiving dinner

DD(7) and I left DH, DD(11) and DS(4) home!!!! :rotfl2:

We also tried a value resort and LOVED it!!! ASMo was so fantastic we are going back this year with the rest of the family and trying POP.

We also tried going the last week of August...we LOVED that too. We usually went in October but the past few times it was toooooo crowded. We loved the week before Labor Day and we are going back again this year in Aug/Sept.

My DH made us have a non-park day our last day and we made it a pool day, then went to dinner at Kona Cafe and watched Wishes from the Poly beach. It actually turned out to be really fun and relaxing before our long drive back to TX. I am the kind of person who would go to a park every day we are there.

We actually brought a lot of snacks and food for our room, and saved a lot of money. We had breakfast out only twice, and saved a lot on snacking in the park as well. I'm not a big breakfast eater anyway, cereal is fine for me. And this time I actually didn't gain weight:-)

It was our second trip so we caught some things we missed the first time: Illuminations, Liberty Tree Tavern, Crystal Palace and did EMH. Also joined DVC that was the biggie. The best "new" thing we did was LTT, we all decided that will become our new first night tradition it was so fun!

Hmmm....

My travel buddy was my Dad. He's widowered (my mom passed away last year) and I'm single. We have similar traveling styles and both love Disney. My sibs and their kid families were there, but these are some of the things Dad and I did differently:

-- Got Annual Passes to save on parking and for our future trips this year
-- Dad rented a scooter for the week so he could finally keep up with me
-- Started our Animal Kingdom day with breakfast at RainForest Cafe (Yummy!)
-- Visited the Conservation Station and were attacked by Luke, the Paper-Loving Goat
-- Visited the Contemporary and saw the Electric Water Parade

J;)

We stayed at our first different resort ever (AKL instead of CR)! It was fun, but we got homesick!

We stayed at MK from the time it opened to the time it closed without leaving at all. NEVER again. I fell asleep on a bench. :rotfl: We were only spending one day at each park and I didn't want to miss anything. We go every almost every year but I couldn't leave. :teeth:

We went to WDW twice in one year!
We stayed in our new home SSR
We went in August in stead of March
Our usual plan of attack is to go to a park for a whole day. Our last trip, we went to a park to ride some of our favorite rides, then went back to our resort, then went to a different park in the evening.
We experienced our first E ride night :wave2:
