I'm starting to think about what to buy DD9 turning 10 five days before Christmas. She wanted a fly pen but givin the reviews from others and my own expectations I think it would be stuck in a drawer 2 weeks after the holidays. What did you buy last year that your DD is still using/playing with .

This real life game seems to be pretty popular. What other suggestions do you have and what should I avoid?

I guess I should start.
Last year hits - Her mix stick, Disney Scene it , Polly pocket ski chalet
Last Year flops - Baby Annabelle, & Scamps my playful pup, just like her Fur Real Bear :sad2: You'd think I'd learn !

My DD just turned 12. When she was 10, we got her a Nintendo DS with the Nintendogs game. She loved it. Just today, I showed her the Toys R Us ad with the new, "special edition" Nintendogs in it. She said, "Ohhhhhhh".

Also, when she was 10, Tamagotchies were a BIG hit with her & her friends.

I bought my now year old a ton of Tinkerbell stuff for her room which was a huge hit, Bratz dolls and cars which was a miss and alot of art supplies including her own easel...that was a very big hit

Craft kits have always been a big hit with my nieces at that age. They have them to make jewelry, signs for their bedroom doors...everything.

We did the fly pen last Christmas. She only played with it a couple times and the special paper and stuff. I would not buy it again. She recently got a Nintendo DS Lite for her birthday and she loves it..

DD9 (eight last Christmas) got Nintendo DS for Christmas.... and she has gotten two of the Nintendogs games in recent months - she really loves them.

Right now she is "into" the Disney Fairies..

I have NO CLUE what this child will get for Christmas... as of last year she still believed in Santa... the subject has not come up this year yet..... she gets too much throughout the year that it makes Christmas difficult... if it weren't for the Santa thing - she'd be getting cash to go on a shopping spree the day after (or Christmas Day since we will be in Magic Kingdom!)

I'm so excied to find this thread! My dd is turning 9 in November! :) Glad to hear the mix stick was a hit last year..... mine is getting one for Christmas~!

My dd is the same age as yours, turning 9. Some things that were huge at our house last year and I know will be again this year are craft and art supplies. This year I am "upgrading" her supplies to some more grown up stuff...watercolor pencils and a water brush, charcoals and a nice quality sketch pad. Stuff like that. :)

If you haven't bought the mix stick already I would consider buying her an Ipod shuffle. It holds more music and you can get one now for around $50.00.
Since my DD loved her Mix Stick so much I'm going to give her my shuffle when Santa brings me my new Nano this year. :lmao: My pet peeve about the mix stick is that I can't find the clips in our area that you can add music to. I can only find the Raven and Disney Hits clips.

I did already buy the mix stick, I found it on clearance at Target for $22.48. I figured for that price I couldnt' go wrong and Dh said that it can be upgraded with a "sd?" card? I don't know...whatever.. that's his department. I was just excited to find her a cute "always a princess" one that matches her jacket. :) I got the Cars one for my 5 year old.

My DD8 (almost 9) is getting:
Nintendo DS Lite (the pink one)...I got a package deal at Toyrus ($140)
Ipod Shuffle or Nano (probably shuffle)
Bratz stuff
Clothes, clothes, clothes (finally, she likes something practical!)
Accessories (she looooves belts, shoes, earrings, etc)
Gift Cert to Claires so she can pick some of her own stuff out
DVDs : High School Musical, Cheetah Girls, etc.
Craft supplies: Scrapbooking stuff, she loves making her own scrapbooks, Creative Memories has "starter packages" made especially for preteens, and I pick up stickers and paper when it's 40% off at AC Moore and Hobby Lobby

That's all I can think of right now, hope this helps!

Oh that Fly Pen ....my dd's/10 is in LIKE NEW condition!! Never played with!! I should try to sell it on ebay!

The hits have been:
Like Jchick put...a gift cert to Claires...my dd loves to get that.

Delta Sand...it's sculpting sand that keeps it's shape, and you can use it over and over again...she loves this. (my 11 nephew loves it also). (i think target has a cheaper version called Moon Sand).

She loves to cook and her aunt bought her her own cooking set with a great cook book for kids. Real stuff, not the mini bake oven.

A nice little digital camera

Magazine subscriptions ( Muse is great as well as Girls Life)

She loves to make bead jewelry.

And a real hit lately is a Twisty balloon animals by Funsational...we have balloon animals all over the house currently!!

My daugher loves to collect things...so maybe you could have her begin a collection? So far my dd collects bells (we have a tinker bell) unicorns, and Tinkerbell items.

Where did you get this? My DD7 has been learning to make balloon animals when we go to kids' night at a local restaurant. We thought she might enjoy a kit to help her learn to make more!

last year some of the hits for DD were Dream life, IPOD, limitd2 clothes, knitting supplies.

This year she is 10 and we are getting her a Snuggler, Fashion Designer (like dream life), heeleys, and maybe a sewing machine and a vera bradley purse.

You know...I honestly can't remember where I got it...but I did some searching online and even though I can't find that same brand, I found others, and even some on ebay. I just did a search of balloon animal kit. I think I may have found ours at a craft store like Michaels. I found extra balloons on ebay which is a good thing, since my dd is running out of balloons!

We're also doing the Fashion Designer and the Vera Bradley. This is going to be an expensive Christmas! I'm sure the first of many!

I agree, the older they get the more expensive their gifts are!

Thanks! I did see some online, but I will check Michael's and AC Moore to see if I can save the shipping cost!
