What did we do before the internet?

Just thinking, and I can't remember what I used to do in my spare time before the internet craze came around. I must have been pretty bored. What did you do?

Before the Internet I watched a ton more TV than I do now. Now I very rarely watch TV. But I am thankful for the Internet since it allows me to communicate with my family and friends in the US. The first 4 years I lived in Italy I didn't have a computer and the only way to stay in touch was through letters and very expensive phone calls. We finally bought a computer our 5th year in Italy and it was nice, yet expensive to use the Internet. Then we left Italy for 3 years and have returned to a high speed connection and unlimited access for a Very reasonable price. :sunny:

:bounce::wave::bounce:

Believe it or not, Pre-Internet (back when I was working W/O Internet!), I also watched taped shows from the daytime - Soaps!!! I was a BIG All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital fan! :o

I also went to bed a LOT earlier back then!! :o

I think I actually slept, though I am not sure what that word means now, plus I read more,

Watch tv and read. No time for that now. ;)
The ironic thing is right after we got married(1995) our first big purchase together was our new computer. I kept telling DH he was crazy, that we didnt need it. Now, if the computer goes down for even a few minutes Im in a panic! :p

I watched tv and read more too. I came really close to killing Barney.

Now when one of the girls wants to watch something I don't want to, I don' care. lol :teeth:

I used to do a lot more crafts (cross-stitch, crochet, painting), read and watch tv. Now, I'd be lost without the internet. Sort of like when you get your first dishwasher or automatic garage door opener - you wonder how you ever lived without it!

I use to be very good at SuperNES games lol. I never play them anymore.

I used to have a lot of pen pals, and wrote long letters on the computer. I've given most of them up now though. Used to watch more TV, and do more cross-stitching back then too.

We had lives...

It's like an addiction, isn't it? I keep saying I'm going to cut back, but it's so hard. Maybe they'll come out with a patch, or something!

I read a lot.

Also, at work we often ask this question, but more in relation to researching ANY topic you can think of!! Stuff you'd spend hours to find out pre-internet by going to the library, or calling places you can find out in seconds.

I did lots of crosswords/other puzzles, read, wrote letters and journals, scrapbooked, & cross-stitched. Oh yeah, and hung out with friends. Thanks for reminding me to get a life. I'm working on that.

But, it does save me a lot of time too. I have this fear of the phone book now.

Oh, and I feel a lot closer to my faraway friends. IMing every night is much better than getting a letter every 2-4 weeks.
