Apologize if this has already been covered, buy I've never been able to get the search functionality to work

What determines a Use Year? Is it when the particular unit you are buying was finished/declared into inventory, or something different? I'm interested in buying into GCV when they open, but would like to match my current Aug UY at SSR. If they open as planned in Dec 09, would they start with Dec UYs, or do I not understand the concept?

With new properties, DVC typically offers a Use Year a few months behind the current date - thus new buyers would get points from the current Use Year and then get more points again in a few months.

At times, they may run out of a particluar Use Year (some UYs at AKV are presently not available).

If you will be purchasing an add-on at GCV your purchase will have the same Use Year as your present contract. If you want a different Use Year, you would need to buy a minimum of 160 points, but an add-on could be as few as 25 points.

Brilliant, Fantastic Response Deleted as it did not address the OP's actual question.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Have done that myself on numerous occasions! Why do we do our best work when we "misread" the question? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Thanks Webmaster Doc. So to see if I understand correctly, UY has nothing to do with when the unit opened, they just split up the amount of total points by 12 so they can spread out the allocation of contracts? I orginally asked the question because I don't want a different UY. I'm expecting I'll probably purchase when they announce in Spring 09 (if that's when it indeed happens) and wanted to see if they will force me to have a different UY because they won't have started selling the Aug UYs yet...

When you buy direct from Disney, they automatically give you the same use year.

DVC has never offered an explanation about how they divide the "units". There are only 8 Use Years (there are none for January, May, July or November).

You will be fine getting your August Use Year. If the resort opens in March, you still won't get any points until August (unless they offer Developer Points or some other incentive) - but your dues will probably be prorated until then too.

Enjoy! :)
