What day does the dining plan start? Everyday that we're in the park?

I'm confused. If we drive in on Thursday (all day drive), spend the night outside WDW that first night, then go to the parks and check in on that next day... does the dining plan start that day or the first day after we're checked in?

Does it work from the first moment we step onto the property with our tickets? If we go to the park before checking into our room, will we not be able to use it?

If you go to the park before checking in you will not be able to use your DDP credits. You must check in to get your Key to the World card (room keys) that have your credits on them. You'll get all your credits at that time and can then use as many or as few in one day as you want to eat. Even if your room is not ready you can still check in and get your cards then head to the park, as early as you want.

Since your package includes your tickets, if you need those tickets to go to the parks (i.e. you don't have some from another source), you have to check in first anyway.

DDP is good from check-in until Midnight the day you check out.
