We went over Thanksgiving Break this year. There were times it was VERY crowded. Next year, I will be going for 7 nights. I want to avoid the big crowds, if possible. I am retiring in June, so I can go anytime, except I want to avoid Election Day and Thanksgiving. Isn't there a marathon the first week of November? I will also be flying, so I want to avoid higher-priced days. And I want to enjoy Food & Wine and see the transformation to Christmas decorations in the parks and the resorts. Which days in November will be the best to go?

Second week should be pretty decent. We went that week 2 years ago and loved it. Busier than we're used to (we usually go in September) but not terrible at all and the weather was delightful!

Marathon weekend is Nov 5-9th this year and Veteran’s Day falls on Wed, November 11th. Election Day and Jersey week are the week prior. The week before Thanksgiving (Nov12-20) should be nice weather and crowd wise, especially on the week days.

The week before Thanksgiving week might be a sweet spot.
Thank you all! That's what I was thinking. Now, I know Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the lowest times to fly. Should I do November 10-17, 11-18, or 12-19? I just want to make sure I am there for Food & Wine but also there for the resort Christmas decorations.

My first choice would be the 12-19 to make sure that the marathon and long weekend Veteran’s Day crowds clear out. In all honesty, even the marathon crowd uptick will be nothing like what you experienced during Thanksgiving week last year. It should be much better crowd wise whichever of the 3 dates you pick. Just for reference, I am planning on running the Wine and Dine 10K this year. I will be arriving on the 5th and leaving on the 11th. Many of the runners want to run their races fresh at the front half of the trip and then stick around a few days after.

That's assuming F&W goes to that 3rd week. I have no reason to think it won't, but this was the 1st year it went so late. Last year it ended on Nov 12.

This is a very good point! Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think the Food and Wine dates were announced in March last year?

Yep! That's what scares me. I like the idea of going in November, but timing it just right to get both the fall and the winter activities is so hard. It's sort of like you have to book having no idea what you're going to get.

I just booked our first stay at the Riviera for the 12th-20th. Looked like the sweet spot. I thought about trying a mix of Oct/Nov but just seemed like it would be too busy.

Looking at November 12-19. I know I run the risk of missing either Food and Wine or the Christmas decorations, but hopefully I'll see both. I do have a question about the Wilderness Lodge. Do any of the Christmas decorations go up before the tree, or are they all done at the same time? If I miss the tree, I would like to at least see some decorations around the resort.

We are planning for the week of the 15th. 11 month booking window opens tomorrow for DVC rental. Fingers crossed!!

I'm confused by this. Veteran's Day doesn't fall around a weekend next year. It's on a Wednesday. Will that affect crowds as much?

I believe the the federal holiday will still fall on Wednesday. I think the marathon will bump up crowds on this long weekend, but it will still be nothing like Thanksgiving crowds. Our school district has Wednesday off. I would take the marathon into consideration more than Veteran’s Day.

Thank you. I just wonder if many people have Veteran's Day off, if it will make that Thursday and Friday after busier--at least, with people not interested in the Wine and Dine who will probably stay Monday-Wednesday. I'm really considering flying in on Veteran's Day but really want as low of crowds as possible.

Also does anyone know if flying on Veteran's Day is cheaper or more costly? I've never noticed.
