What counter service places should we avoid?

We have all our dinner ADR's scheduled, but plan to just grab lunch wherever we happen to be as 11:30 rolls around. I've heard that the Electric Umbrella is bad, is there anything else we should avoid? I figure there are less bad places than good, so that is why I am asking for the negative, lol!

We are visiting all 4 parks, neither water park, and might do a counter lunch at DD on the last day. We will be on the counter plan, if that matters any. And we are a mix of adventerous and picky eaters, so we tend to ignore the picky ones, rather than cater to them. Hunger can get you to try new things!

THX!

Hmm that is tough, I can't say I really hated any certain ones. Disney has really stepped up their counter service restaurants. I don't think ABC Commissionary in MGM is worth going to. Many people complain of Pizza Planet at MGM but dd4 insists on going there and we actually thought the pizza was good. There is basically only pizza there. I think the Electric Umbrella is pretty bad but we now only go to Seasons in the Land at Epcot. That is a great place with a ton of variety. Same with Cosmic Rays in MK. Lost of selections and very good. I have heard very mixed reviews on the Noodle Station in Tomorrowland - some love it and some downright HATE it - so I have been leary about taking a chance there. We only eat at Tusker House at AK so I haven't tried any bad ones there either.

HTH some though!!

We like the ABC Commisary at MGM. My girls get a kids chicken nugget meal and my DH and I split a Cuban sandwich that we really like.
Electric Umbrella isn't bad...it fills the need for chicken fingers that my girls LOVE!

No really bad ones...just some we prefer. Our usual haunts are...

MK-Cosmic Rays or Pecos Bills(unless El Piraco is open..then we are there!)
MGM-ABC Commisary
Epcot-Seasons
AK-Pizzafari(pretty good Italian sandwich if you don't want pizza)
DTD-Earl of Sandwich

We definitely thought that Seasons was better than Electric Umbrella. Did not like Toy Story Pizza Planet, but enjoyed the atmosphere, and got a Toy Story mug for DH. Loved Cosmic Ray's and Tusker House.

I actually love the Electric Umbrella chicken fingers! I wouldn't know about any of their other food, though...

Just as with any other fast food place, you can get a sub-standard meal from any location, at any time. It isnt Ronald McDonald (or Walt's) fault. I doubt that WDW would knowingly serve/ sell any food on its property that wasnt up to health code standards. If you enjoy fast food burgers, or hot dogs, or fast food chicken strips, Chuck E Cheese pizza, Wendy's salads etc... this is what I expect to find at counter service in WDW as far as quality goes. Not having indoor seating, in florida... Not thats a whole other issue :furious:

Thanks everyone! I like what I am hearing. Last time we went, most meals were provided by the Yacht Club because it was a corporate event. We ate one lunch at the Tusker House and loved it, an the other 2 lunches were simply sampling our way around the world showcase during the Food & Wine Festival.

Sweetness does bring up a good point, lol! I'm sure we would rule out any place that does not have air conditioning. We Coloradians can handle heat, but not humidity!

The Umbrella actually has a fairly decent sized indoor seating area. Behind the counter is the toppings bar and then the seating area indoors, and doors to tables outside. We've never had a problem finding a seat. Cantina de San Angel has no indoor seating, the Norwegian and French bakeries may as well not it's so limited, though.

We also will go to whatever we are close to at meal time but here are our rough plans:
MK - cosmic Rays or Pecos Bill
Epcot - Seasons in the Land
MGM - Backlot Express
AK - Tusker House or possibly Flame Tree
DTD - ??

Never had a "bad" meal anywhere in the World. Usually do a lot of counter service too, as it's easier with the kids - they don't sit still for table service very well. I'd just suggest checking out the menus beforehand. I see you say you don't cater to the picky eaters, but in my picky eater household, there is not a single meal in the Epcot-Seasons that anyone will eat! :confused3 It is a waste for us to even walk in there. If you have a basic idea ahead of time what each restaurant has, that might help.

I personally will avoid the Noodle Station in Tomorrowland on our next trip because last September I got food poisoning eating chicken lo mein there. Thankfully it was only a mild case, but not worth risking it again for me. I had high hopes for them too.

The only counter service we had awful food at was ABC Commissary. Never again! I was expecting not-so-good food at Electric Umbrella but we tried it anyway for convenience sake, and we all enjoyed our burgers and sandwiches.

MK has the best coun ter service, you cant go wrong there.

But our worst experience was at Resturauntasarus (Lunch and Dinner).

We liked Tusker House, Pecos Bill's, Lotus Blossom. Electric Umbrella was good enough - typical burgers and fries. Harry Ramsden's fish and chips were good. Did not like Flame Tree BBQ.

pirate: We went to Electric Umbrella last October. The food was horrible. We will not return this year. :furious:

Avoid the CS in the Land Pavillion at EPCOT. Also I did not like the CS in Morocco. YUCK!

The CS I like are:
Magic Kingdom - Peco Bills
Animal Kingdom - Flame Tree BBQ
Epcot - The CS in Mexico
MGM - the CS right out side of the Indiana Jones stunt show.

My one and only bad meal experience at WDW was Pizzafari in AK for lunch. We did not like the food selection at all and what we got wasn't very tasty. We are planning our next trip for August 2007 and everyone has said they do NOT want to eat at Pizzafari ever again.

Avoid the CS at temporary location for Captain Cooks at the Polynesian. Seating very poor, food quality poor and the set-up is poorly arranged.

Once CC's has returned to its permanent location, chance are that things will improve dramtically.

Pinnochio Village Haus and Electric Umbrella are both pretty bad. The Pizza Planet thing at MGM is also good to avoid.

Only one place really stands out for us, and it's the Yuckitori (oops, Yakitori) House at Epcot. It was just a total waste of money. Food was cold and bland. Never again.
