What Could This Be.....

So, Disney might build the southern most hotel in Garden Walk which would lead into the strawberry fields 3rd gate.

That sounds like it makes sense, layout wise. I only recall hearing about two hotels in the immediate future, and both would probably have to be sandwiched over in that Garden Walk area. Chances are, one of them will lead into that strawberry fields area. I think there would be more room/possibility for Westcot than any other potential park idea. I would LOVE to see an Animal Kingdom here, but that will never happen in that location. I wish we could have DisneySea, but that won't happen either. I doubt they will go with a water park, even though the space might be right for one. Seeing that they took some negative feedback for putting a California-themed park in California, I would be shocked to find out that the next park will be Disney Hollywood Studios, just 40 minutes from Hollywood, but you never know with them. I think Westcot is the one that makes the most sense so far, even though I would rather see other stuff before that. There is just no room for real development in Anaheim.

What is Westcot?

I LOVE Animal Kingdom. And Disney Sea looks awesome.

As far as I know, Westcot was the very first idea for a second park at DLR - even before California Adventure. It would be the West Coast version of Epcot Center! I remember hearing about it YEARS ago. For some reason, they decided to go with DCA instead, and now the idea for a third park may or may not be Westcot. At first, I wasn't thrilled about a West Coast Epcot when I heard this back in the '80s, but now the more I think about it, especially the unique decorations around the holidays for each 'country', I think it would be a good idea. And again, there simply is not enough land for Animal Kingdom, darn it. And I think the same applies to Disney Sea. I will be p***ed off if they decide to put a water park here and I think it will be lame if they do Disney Hollywood in California. So Westcot is really the only option left that would be truly different for us out here...unless they have a totally new concept for a park in the works, that is!

The rumors go back as far as 2000.................. That article even gave a potential opening of the third gate as 2003!

There is even a website called www.thirdthemepark.com that uses the line "where we will be in 2003" and features a picture from TOT? It has forever been nothing more than an initial page that tells you to stay tuned for some exciting news. But like I said, it has stayed unchanged for years. I have always kept hoping they would come up with something new! :wizard:

What about a big roller coaster park like Rock 'n' Roller coaster. But just coasters? They don't take a big foot print of land??? ie Knott's.

Umm I don't know if this is reliable and I didn't think much of it at the time- but on the day we left we were approached by a dreams person while standing in front of Pirates waiting for the rest of the gang.

He found out quickly that we were leaving but stayed to talk to us for a while. He suggested that a good year to come back was 2010 because "by then Radiator Springs would be open." I smiled and nodded and said thank you for the good advice. I didn't realize that he was possibly giving us information that wasn't official. I suppose it amounts to nothing more than gossip- but there you have it.

I know 1 little guy that would love a Radiator Springs park he is so in to Cars, and Trucks!! Zoom Zoom Car, Choo Choo Truck!!

I guess they did finally decide not to call the new section of DCA "Cars Land" after all! If you remember the stuff you might have read about all of the changes they are making to California Adventure, they were establishing a new area based on Pixar's Cars - which takes place in Radiator Springs. There will be a new thrill ride based on Epcot's Test Track technology.

That's what the CM meant. Right now, they are sinking every extra dollar into redoing DCA. Soon, the Orange Stinger and the Sun wheel will be losing their current theming. The big ferris wheel is going to be closed this fall for a rehab to have the sun removed and a big Mickey head put on it. Golden Dreams will close and The Little Mermaid will move in.

2010 will be an exciting year for that park!

Any idea what year the DCA BILLION DOLLAR make-over will be 100% finished?

I THOUGHT that they were aiming to have the bulk of everything done by 2012. Of course, they have to hustle on that, but I think that is what I read. 3 - 5 years was the plan.

Excellent!

Any idea what kind of additions will be added to DL in the meantime?

None that they have said. They've already done most of their rehab, with Space Mountain, the Indy additions in Adventureland, Small World's rehab, Princess Fantasy Faire, Subs, Innoventions Dream Home.......

Need I go on? They fixed the place up for the 50th. Rumor has it after DCA is over they may do something with the defunct Rocket Rods/PeopleMover space.

It would be nice if they put the people mover back in. I guess I have something to look forward to for 2013. :lmao:

Do you guys really think the DCA makeover will be all that great? :confused3

I do. I actually like the park and find it has a certain charm. I think these changes may enhance it to be more of what people expected in the first place.

The fact that Radiator Springs is on Route 66 in the movie, makes it fit perfectly into the car culture that California is famous for. It's a bit of a stretch to tie Ariel into the "Paradise Pier" area, but the quadrant they are putting her in is the "transition of California's natural land beauty to it's ocean coast", so I guess it could tie in. I will miss the sun on the Wheel, and I'm not sure how they will make the Silly Symphony theme tie in, but we'll see.

They opened the park just a bit too soon - not enough attractions to draw the crowds. Timing and formula weren't there, but they certainly have some award winner attractions. They just need to convince the day visitors of that. It's just really hard for anyone to complete with a beloved original - a hallowed ground of sorts....:worship: ;)

It would be kind of fun if they built a 'value resort' like they have at WDW (all star, pop, etc.). Some big ostentatious hotel at a good value. The lot looks small to do much else, but then again when you look at DL and DCA together it's surprising how much stuff they can cram together:)

Now that I have been to DCA a couple of times, I do like it overall, but it does not have the right 'flow' to it, nor the same magic that Disneyland has. It feels a bit sterile; sort of disjointed. It has some great rides, but it does need some tweaking, and I just hope they don't make it worse! They can't make it a total Pixar-themed park because there are too many rides that have nothing to do with Pixar there. Being a California resident, I still think that putting a California-themed park in California was a big risk, and it has been stated in many articles that others thought it was a bad idea too. I know this sounds wacky because they have everything in the planning stages years in advance, but I don't know that they thought it through enough! It kind of feels like they were so anxious to stick another park in there and maybe didn't know what to do with the theme, so they said, "Hey, let's make it all about California." I don't know why they didn't stick with Westcot - I think that would have been a great idea. But okay, so now we have this little DCA park that needs some good TLC. I think it will be better after the refurb in that it will be more 'Disney.' I am not 100% sold on all of the things they have planned for it, but I have not given up hope. I think it is a work in progress. As old and almost kind of dated as DL is, it is THE park. It is the one single park in the world with more people going through its gates than any other park (proven statistics), probably because it is the original and because it has so many repeat visitors. It is beloved, and people cannot get enough of it. It would be hard to replicate that exact feeling in DCA because, frankly, it does not have Walt's personal stamp on it, and he was a genius, but they can certainly do a lot of fine-tuning.

They do cram a lot! Well, we know they have two new hotels in the works. I wondered about the Value thing too, but then I wonder if maybe they think that PPH is a value hotel? If that lot is for a new park, then I am not sure where the hotels would be, unless they just buy up a couple of the hotels right in that little hub of activity. You never know - they very well may put in a big ostentatious structure along the lines of the All-Star hotels. Then again, isn't there a rumor that they may tear down the DLH? If they did (and I hope they don't because it is the original), I wonder what would go in its place.
