If your instinct is telling you that it might be a person you know, you should play it all close to the vest. Don't give that person any details, play everything off lightly. Do not let any of your travails - high deductible, making the insurance adjuster appointment, etc. - get back to this person. "Oh, I needed to get the car painted and detailed anyway", "Oh, my deductible wasn't much", "Oh, the insurance company was a pleasure to deal with", "Oh, this will make my car worth so much more when I go to sell it", "Oh, I *love* the new paint job"...light and airy.
Acting like it's no big deal will not give the perpetrator the satisfaction of causing your grief. And the bonus could be that she might just be stupid enough to do something else...
and that's when the footage from your secretly-installed security cameras will nail her sorry behind to the wall.

...funny, that's what my DH wants to do....he's been thinking about it for a LONG TIME now....
