We will be driving from MCO to WDW (Pop Century). What are the amounts of the tolls on this route? Also, are the toll amounts the same on the return trip (WDW to MCO)? I would like to make sure I bring correct change.

Thanks!!

All quarters will be sufficient. I'm told that $2.50 will be enough for the south route (417). A little less if you get off at 436/435; follow 436 into the entrance towards Epcot.

One dollar is enough for the north route (north airport exit, left at first light, little over a mile take two quick lefts at lights onto 528 west.)

In both cases paying tolls in cash may require taking what looks like an exit ramp to get to the toll plaza. Only those with Florida electronic toll transponders may use the straight through lanes.

Using RT 417 which IMHO is the easiest way to WDW, you do not need exact change the toll booths are manned. There are 2 tolls, each $1.25.
Take exit 6 off 417 just after the second toll, and follow straight into WDW.

Here's a map

Thanks! Do I need to have coins, or can I use 2 dollar bills and 2 quarters?

On the manned lanes (none at Exit 3 Osceola on 417) you can use dollar bills.

Guess I goofed. The $2.50 covers 417 down to 535/536. A little more to get off at Osceola or further south.

Speaking of maps, here is one for the north route (528)

Please note on the above map posted by SeashoreCM for the north route, he has you going around the airport toll plaza on the 528. That saves $1.00 but it does add 5-10 minutes to the journey depending on the traffic lights. If you exit the airport and go directly onto TOLL 528 westbound, you'll pay two tolls, not just one.

I would recommend to go through the manned toll booths when possible. During my trip a few weeks ago I had the exact change toll booths mis-register 3 separate times!!!!!:scared1: In one of the toll buckets someone had put a dollar bill in it and the coins weren't registering properly. It was very frustrating because I had to wait and throw an extra quarter each time because I didn't want to get a ticket registered to the rental car for toll evasion.:sad2::sad2:

Are you renting a car at MCO? If so, most of the rental companies now are part of the Sun Pass rental car system, where you pay a small fee ($2.50 per day that you use tools) and you can just sail through the Sun Pass lanes without even slowing down.

We just fill an empty Airborne tube (M&M tube would probably work, too) with quarters and leave it in the rental car during our stay.

The south exit from MCO to the 417 is clearly the best way. You miss I4 which can be a mess. Two tolls but be sure to take exit 6 International Dr. Don't be fooled by the signs taking you to exit 3. Easy from the exit to Buena Vista (first after welcome arch), left (west) on Buena Vista Victory Way, and straight to the Pop.

It's my understanding that the fee is a daily fee...not just on the days that you use a toll. So in other words....$2.50(or whatever) per day X the number of days you are renting for.

This could get a little costly.

ETA: I just looked at the fee ...holy cow....it's $6.99 per day with the companies that are listed. There is also a weekly max fee of $36.99 and it does state that it is a term of rental fee not available only on certain days.

From this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2726155 it sounds like the fee is only applied the day you actually use the toll road.

Also it looks as if Alamo / National only charge a $2 fee.

Dollar and Thrifty are the only ones with the expensive option. Keep scrolling down the page and you'll see that the other companies are MUCH more reasonable.

I personally used the service with Alamo, and it was $2 on the days I used the tolls....no charge on days I was only in WDW.

If u exit from terminal a take north exit to 527 To I-4 (2.00 in tolls) then get off exit 65 and make a left on Osceola pkwy then right on victory. If u exit from terminal b take the south exit to 417. Then get off exit 6 (2.00 in tolls) take 538 to I-4 W to exit 65 then make a right on Osceola Pkwy or take exit 3 (3.00 in tolls) directly to Osceola pkwy. Then make a right on Victory Way. Also u can take s exit down past 417 to Osceola pkwy (2.00 in tolls.)

Its always interesting to see a Newby to the DIS boards who brings a thread that is over 2 years old, back to life. :rotfl:

He must be using the Search feature to look for ways from the airport to MCO. This is the third old thread I've read in the last five minutes brought back by this same poster.:rotfl: He responded to another two year old thread about how to avoid the toll roads from MCO to WDW and then to a year old thread comparing the two routes from MCO to WDW (417 vs 528). It's funny Newbies can find threads two or three years old and I can't even find threads a couple of weeks old.:rotfl: It's good to go back and read those old threads sometimes though. Alot of them have some good information on them. (I just can't ever find them:rolleyes1:headache::confused:.)

Remember the old thread about the can corn and the hilarious one the older lady wrote about losing her top and flipping out of the raft and almost giving the guy behind her a heart attack on one of the water rides after the CM convinced her to go down head first (I think her screen name was someone's Grammy)? I would love to go back and read those threads again. They were hilarious!

How has the toll/route information changed since this thread began?

I have never in my life driven through a toll booth and I don't know how it works. :confused3 Actually, if I hadn't discovered the DIS boards, I would've probably held a lot of ppl up trying to dig for money...
